osong if you are a game developer, your "production" machine is literally the gaming rig. this whole "dont treat your pc as gaming pc" is.. i dunno, it is an inadequate statement
You're kinda missing the point of the statement. If you were a game dev, you would still be being a little selective of what software libs, and general apps that you install.
Not sure how to make it any clearer, by production machine it simply means you don't go installing all types of shit, randomly deciding to update graphics drivers "just because" etc etc. How is that hard to understand?

When you install sofware like a crazy you end up formating your PC a lot and is a problem because install all the software again and plugins is a nigthmare(I have a reinstall pending for 4 months)
In fact, a powerful 3D software, although unknown, has surpassed most software in modeling functions. It is 3dcoat, and it is recommended that Houdini learn more

I use 3D Coat, great at sculpting, modelling, the best at retopology and IMHO better than SP for painting, great UV tools as well, it could use more tutorials, but things are getting better on that side !

First of all I do think 3DCoat is a good software. While I'm quite proficient with Blender now, I have to admit Blender's texture painting is hardly usable if you 1. need 4K resolution 2. need PBR workflow. 3DCoat is a much better choice. (Substance Painter is another one, but in my opinion 3DCoat is better if you don't need Designer's procedural capability)
Second, please read this:
We can not (and don't want and are not going to) control your activity (our EULA do not have such limitations). This is our appeal and not a legal demand.

I had used 3D Coat back then. It is a great software and I liked it a lot .I respect their choice . And this is a very flammable topic so I am sorry for bringing that up also I am against all kind of religious and politic premises for dcc that is why I stopped using it. I guess this is more appropriate way of explaining it. Take care.
There is nothing in the EULA preventing anyone from using 3D Coat for anything, they just voice concerns about it being used for offensive stuff on a separate page on their site, just an opinion, no limitations in the EULA itself, I interacted with Andrew a few times, and he seems like a really nice guy!
if you want something that is close to 3dcoat, you can use 3dcoat itself. i certainly do not want that interface with some slider with 500 actions listed vertically. (layers and resolution is handled better than in zbrush though)

What got me hooked is the Voxel sculpting, the retopology, and the painting tools, I am getting used to the modelling tools still, but they look very powerful, as for the interface, it is certainly not worse than ZBrush, and it does a lot more at a much lesser price tag, the yearly updates are 45 Euros after the initial purchase, it all comes down to preferences really!
Some simple sculpt brushes like the ones in Blender would be nice to have in Houdini, to make blendshapes or some simple modifications. The Sculpt SOP is not really usable now.
If you want something like software X you can just use software X itself...
Uh, of course I'm using software X itself already, otherwise how I know it's good?
No shit. I mean if software X is good at doing Y, and Houdini is going to implement Y one day, I hope Houdini to learn from the good parts of software X. That's it.
Lots of good feedback here but just a reminder to log RFE's and BUGs for the issues you care about so that they go into a bug database, get tracked, and assigned to programmers. https://www.sidefx.com/forum/topic/25347/ [www.sidefx.com]

Some urgency for me is not into making Houdini a modeler like Zbrush or blender, battle is already lost. But concentrate on his strength. A *BIG* weakness for myself is how much, long complex and wacky to build user interface for tools. It's pretty much the same weakness like for realtime viewport feedback where houdini looks really outdated compared to sexy blender Eeve which day after day is gaining charming more and more people.
Sidefx needs to recognize this and react quickly is they don't want to lose a large part of their market... Houdini is still my favorite software i tried in 30 years, but you have also to convince my clients in a world where things move very fast and you have no choice to be fast and sharp too.
There are special points i will really like to emphasize because im worried if you miss this next move, @chrism

Do you honestly think that SideFX is so stupid and need your basic advice on this? Lol sidefx lost the battle for zbrush or blender modeller? Come on. Reflect on what you’re saying.
Well, many people here did complain about houdini lack of modeling features and it's my right to express myself on the subject and not agree with what others consider as priority.
What does your point here bring constructively? Why is your experience and opinion so much more valuable than mine? If Sidefx is so visionary and doesn't need such "basic advice", why are they late on achieving what over software already have reached today?
I have already posted other specific feature and feedback before. Some of my bestprogress came from what some most people would called basic things and maybe it's also what houdini missed today. Do you think i need for example a transform by center or just a full node but which could be resume by 2 lines of codes. I do not, but i could see tons of this. While when i enter a Houdini node, nothings is named, nothing is commented, or ordered... This , is what i would called a basic thing for a professional.. What do you have to say here? Why do we have a menu entry for , attribute noise, attribute noise float, attr noice vector. Same for point wrangle, prim wrangle, vextex wrangle, while one is enought to encompass all of them and not spam my menu for nothing really pertinent. For me as well this is obviously some other basic things which i don't think it's a good idea but i imagine some others are thinking differently and possibly find this convenient and important for then. (?)
After why is it basic? I have met many people in my carrier who have these impressive pretentious talk and building complex code but poorly perform at the end , just because they lost track or have no aerial understanding of the all process.
