I here that… I been messing around most of the day, attempting to construct some very simple architecture… A wall with a window. Never thought that that would be so tough!
A good number of my attempts were based on a boolean subtract to get the window. But the poly count was higher than needed or the normals on the model would hose. However, the issue here is Houdini reverses the normals, but still displays them… I didn't know what was going on until I turned on the primitive normal display.
Next tries were with a grid with a window hole in it. The extrusion wouldn't leave a copy of the back side of the wall. I finally made a copy of side, reversed the normals on the other, PolyKnit them together, reduced polies, and cuspted the edges. There's got to be a beter way to make a silly wall with a window/door

Found this thread when researching Collada possibilities. Photex, not sure why you stated that HD couldn't be used for character animations… Was the scope of this comment include use with Torque? I could swear I saw a short tutorail where a bones animation was exported into Torque. However, I have to admit I've personally not hit this area of investigaion yet… but definitely plan to. Regardless, I can see that there are definitely some Houdini animation techniques that might have a high likelihood of faling outside the realm of Torque exportation

I dropped trying to figure out issues with version 10, since I purchased the Apprentice HD which should have been for 11. Though the version 10 install issue is mystery, I needed not be running under the freeby Apprentice license for 11 that would be expiring in Sept. There was some kind of glitch in the system that issued Apprentice HD 10 licensing, but this was corrected and I'm please with quick response given t the issue and very pleased so far.

I just purchased it this last Fri. (Aug. 6), at which time 11 was clearly available. I've contacted sales, stating that the real issue seems to be that I should have been issued licenses for Apprentice HD 11, not 10.
The crazy thing is, I attempted to download and install ver. 10, but the Win32 install complained that it was a 64-bit install

And, now something must be messed up with 10 for Win32, because that's the version I finally found and download, but reports that I'm trying to install a 64-bit app on a 32 bit OS… GO FIGURE!

Thanks, matsbt, but their not their… It was easy enough to see where the Torque exporter should be accessed from… its empty. There is all kinds of confusion with this install, because my licensing says version 10, but the only download paths are for 11. I got rid of my licenses, reinstalled, then reinstalled my purchased Apprentice HD license, now Houdini is complaining and won't even start :?

I'm a first time user and don't have access to 10… all downloadpaths lead to 11… I'd like to try 10. I was extremely confused when all related licenses state version 10, but the only download is for 11 :?

I've had an odd time of it, for sure! I'm actually a desktop user that purchased Apprentice HD. When I installed, however, I chose the free licensing version for 11. So, I had to retrieve my purchased, non-commercial license. These showed they were for version 10, though downloads aways take you to 11.
Well, I then noticed their was a menu option to “Upgrade to Apprentice HD”, which I thought was odd, since I had the Apprentice HD license. I then noticed that I didn't have access to the advertised Torque exporter(s). This lead me to believe that I was not running under the proper license… that the software/licensing was confused. So I was going to attempt to resend non-purchansed version 11 licenses, but you can't do that with free non-commercial licenses. So, I deleted the licensing info and reinstalled, then retrieved by purchased licenses. I then switched over to local licensing since Im a Apprentice HD user. The end result is, Houdini keeps complaining about licensing, even though administrator is happy with everything. Note that I did try the server method first, which also didn't work, prior to changing the licensing method to local. I haven't yet seen a way to try version 10, because all current download paths take you to 11.0.446.9. If I want to keeep working, it lliks like Id have to get the free non-commercial license(s) and be back where I started… appearing to really not be running Apprentice HD.

I believe I'm having a licensing conflict, because Apprentice/Apprentice HD downloads take you to the 11.0.446.9 verion. When I first installed, I got the non-commercial licenses related to version 11 which don't expire until Sept. ‘10. Then, I accessed my paid Apprentice HD licenses, which appear to be for version 10. I think the version 11, non-apprentice licenses are keeping me for seeing the Torque exporters. To complicate matters, I cannot return the non-commercail version 11 licenses to even test my theory. Uninstall-restart-reinstall didn’t solve the problem. I badly need technical assistance with this issue :!:

I noted above that I don't see the advertised Torque exporters. I reinstalled, but I think version 11 non-commercial licenses are conflicting with my Apprendice HD license, but there is no way for me to rid myself of the version 11 related licenses, so I pretty frustrated at the moment

I'm new to Houdini and just purchased Apprentice HD and very impressed! However, I do a bit of a problem. I actually purchased it though the Torque site, which linked me over to the 11.0.446.9 version of Houdini. I thought the install went fine, but then notice that the Torque exports that were advertised aren't present. Anybody have a clue to what might be wrong? In the mean time, I'll do a re-install to see if that help. I was having an issue with understanding how the license server work, so I think I picked the wrong option, so it is likely confused about my actual licensing for Apprentice HD

Thanks much for the clarification. Not totally new to 3D software, but there are new options here and appreciate your nudge in the right direction. I might have found this if I rumaged around a bit more. Maybe these directions could be added to this affect at the examples page?

I'm new, so very confused, because I wasn't sure what I should see in the app after telling it to load what I think was “waveCHOP”. Nothing seemd to show except a node. I'd get an error if I attempted to load again, seeming to complain that it was already loaded. I Expected to see an animated plane or something that looked like water. I didn't see any additional instructions or a description of what I should see … BTW, I am running the 11.0.446.9 version also.

I had problems with obtaining my real liicenses thinking that I was using the correct info. Then, I just happened to take a look in my emails to find the licensing password they sent me, as opposed to the one I thought I picked.
Still kind of confused though, because the install 11.0.446.9, but my actual liicens is for Apprentice HD 10. Also, splash says “Houdini Master” and there is an “Update to Apprentice HD” item in the Help menu… just makes me wonder what I'm really running

I was pretty bugged out for the same reason. Stopped AVAST and then download went fine. Odd thing is, I don't usually have any problem with downloads, so this was real annoying experience!
