OK, a ‘change range’ or ‘aiRange’ is a ‘Fit Range’ in H. Check..
But I cannot find anything that would allow me to tweak the black/white or mid level of an image though…
Oh, and isn't there a simple ‘gamma’ node that I can plugin in between color slots?

Hi all,
What's the best way to tweak B/W images inside a shader setup?
I'm looking for something like a ‘change range’ remap node or something alike the PS ‘levels’ node.
So you can move the black/mid/white points around. I found the ramp node, but it's not entire doing what I need, especially in the mid tones.
cheers!

After 80 views, it looks like I'm the only one having this issue?
Oh well…. sigh..
rob
Edit: didn't see your post pop up yesterday before my comment, but those four files are in my scan list as well. On various scanners.
I still say False Positive, but it's annoying as hell.

Didn't AMD release a software suite for this? Basically sidestepping the Windows Taskmanager?

Hi,
Just to be sure, I checked both files on Jotti.
I get the same warning with GData, BitDefender, eScan and F-Secure out of a 15 scanner checks.
I cannot un-quarantine/OK the files now, as F-Secure will pick them up at the next scan.
Also, my Win10 system is becoming quite unstable for some reason with all this file blocking, and am forced to reboot after the quarantine every time….
A regular virus scan finds nothing else, so I can assume I'm in the clear for other stuff…..

Asus and it's own software…….
Never install it, it gives you more pain than gain so to speak.
Glad you have it up and running again.
And how hard it is to find and fix these kind of problems when they're not really related to the software itself, but 3rd party stuff.
And the GTX970 is ‘faulty’, as it has memory issues. Maybe that will add to the issues?

Hi Guys,
Not sure where to post this, but I'm getting a virus warning (GenVariant.Ser.Razy.326)on i3dconvert.exe and hsc.exe for the Windows installer of H17.
Win10, F-Secure, latest version and updates. It's probably a false flag, but wanted to let you know.
Rob
Will scan my machine a extra time for nasties though

I assume you're rendering with Mantra?
The cryptomatte node in Nuke should work ‘as is’, so I can only think somehow the output in the exr is off somehow.
Especially because the exr from V-Ray works in Nuke as expected.
Any chance to see if Fusion is doing the same thing?

Have you tried opening the result inside Houdini to see if it renders properly?

It's just a case of “Apple being Apple”.
They still think their U.S. users numbers are the same all over the world. /s
And for ‘professional hardware and software’ from Apple, don't hold your breath for too long.
Apple's ‘bread and butter’ is mobile, not desktop.

Even for experienced 3D artists (transitioning to) Houdini can be hard to learn, even with a very solid understanding of all areas of 3D.
Like you found out, Rohan's videos are excellent but may not be the place to start when you're not familiar with certain workflows in 3D.
Free training that goes into the basics in-depth might be a bit difficult to find, but have a look at Udemy, Gumroad, GameTutor, CGCircuit etc. for more (base) training.
Also have a look at YouTube and/or Vimeo for some more free video training.
People like Peter Quint have a large library of videos available. Unfortunately a lot of them cover older versions of Houdini, and workflow could have changed dramatically since.
But due to the nature of Houdini, things might get technical very quickly.
And start with one area at the time, or you get swamped with information
Good luck!

Yes, there were big changes in shading and workflow. As well as the new /mat context.
Maybe you can contact the one who created the shader, to see if a 16.x version is useful or not?

It's nice that AMD puts quad cores into it's mobile solutions, in comparison to Intel which are mostly duo cores.
I have no idea how the Vega hardware will perform with Houdini….

Installing a Linux distro has become much easier, e.g. Ubuntu or Mint are set up almost like a Windows install.
Getting it all working after the install, driver wise can be a bit more tedious, especially with graphic drivers.
But testing a distro is as easy as creating a bootable version and running the ‘test’ version. No install required.
Or set up a virtual machine and install in there to see what works or not.
We can only hope Win10 Pro Workstation is a bit more optimized for ‘heavy’ apps than the regular flavors.

First of all, I don't know how much experience you have with building pc's of various configurations and pricing.
As a pc is the sum of it's parts, combined with proper bios settings, drivers and some more, it's sometimes hard to pick a reason for crashes.
A lot of times it's buggy RAM, but as often it's something else.
crashing is not always the program's fault. But I find Houdini as stable as the other apps out there. In some areas more stable, in some areas the same.
And not being able to finish a render, there must be something wrong with your system. Even my tablet can spit out a render from Blender, although not from a complex scene. So a semi-serious pc should be able to render something. Via a CPU or GPU renderer..
The Houdini hair system has been rebuilt in v16, and the Vimeo channel show a couple of video explaining workflow and examples.
Ggood luck on your project!

For me personally, I don't see the appeal of these one-in-all setups.
I rather spend my money on a normal pc case, so I can add/replace stuff as the hardware comes along.
Now you're stuck, a simple replacement of a graphics card and alike is out of the question.
It's a nice rig, but I would like to see the price of their top model. It's probably climbing up to 8K easily…
