Collide with Objects shelf tool

Converts an object into a collision volume that can interact with smoke/fire/liquid in a fluid container.

The shelf tool converts its geometry into appropriate volumes, then imports them into the DOP network using a Volume Source node.


As of Houdini 14, the recommended way of setting up collision objects for fluid simulations is by using Static Object or Deforming Object shelf tools under the Collisions tab.

Using Collide with Objects

To...Do this

Create a fluid container

See Smoke Container or Pyro Container.

Fill a fluid container

See Source from Surface, Source from Points, and Source from Volume.

Create a collision volume

  1. Select the object you want to turn into a collision volume.

  2. On the Populate Containers tab, click the Collide with Objects tool.

  3. Select the fluid container you want to collide and press Enter.
