Thank you Jordi, for the time and effort you are putting into this. Your efforts helps me to sell the idea of turning our studio into a Houdini shop to my peers.

Every evening after a long day I come home and check this thread to see if there is something new to learn. After a month of digging into Maya and Houdini I can honestly say that I feel happy to slowly fall in love with a 3d application again. I should say thanks to SideFx, but your efforts makes it all worth while.

Thanks again, and thanks to all the good people at Sidefx for thinking in a procederal way.

Thanks so much for the kind words, it gives me strength.

And after a few days preparing the next guide I have finally finish it.

Which is all about skinning and although there is plenty more these are the basics I feel you need to know.

Enjoy it slowly as the next one will take me a few more days.

It is on my plan, may be the very last thing though given I have consciously leave it to the end.

Basically I am not very good with Dynamics, Particles and VOPs so that may be a decision to be made.

I will try to help you with your video once I am back in the office… as we speak I am in Argentina on a shoot.

:-P

End of next week then?

I haven't managed to look over all these but from what little I did see, you're doing a great job. Keep it up!

Thanks, hope you find it useful… I am on the last stage of rigging, so far 650 pages so it is becoming quite a big thing right now.

Hopefully will wrap it up soon and you will have a nice pile of stuff to read for those nights you can't sleep.

Well, almost there with the rigging chapter…

Where you can find a comprehensive run through a character setup (Except fingers and eyes)

Unfortunately the OSX implementation has let me down a bit as one of the tricks I use on Linux does not work with the current OpenGL implementation…

Please let me know if there are any mistakes, typos, etc… as I will wrap it all up on Friday when I am back in the office and can do a few new screenshots to show how it looks on a Linux box.

The next guide will come a week from here as I am on the middle of a shoot and time is of essence now.

Enjoy.

Really great information Jordi.

I'm picking up a tremendous amount of insight from these guides. I hope you are not burning out on the extensive work that goes into creating them.

Thanks for the hard work and let us know if you ever plan to put up some kind of donation link.
jordibares
Thanks a lot Keith, really appreciate it.

The work that goes into these more complex and precise ones (like rigging) is something I was not expecting but I am happy as I am learning a lot too by simply trying to explain it.

Regarding donations… Thanks a lot but I don't want any money.

:-)

Rigging now consolidated, added a couple of images to the Setup guide so you can see the character OpenGL on linux (how it is intended)

Please Halfdan, you can now put it on your side.

I will be uploading soon the animation one

enjoy.

IMPORTANT

Major update on the rigging section, I have added an IK Rest section in the bones guide as this has not been done before and felt wrong.

Of course I have reupload both the rigging and the animation so you can get the PDFs with the right page numbers

sorry for the annoyance.

After quite a few days of silence I finally manage to put together a CHOPs introduction that hopefully will be helpful.
