Hi all,
I'm new to VFX, and beyond seeing the SideFX posts on video cards, have no sense of what reasonable entry-level hardware requirements might be for Houdini. I'm planning to buy a new PC, and am wondering whether the following specs are enough to get started. No need for anything at the pro level. Thanks.
Garry
Intel® Core™ i9 9900K (8 Core/16 Threads, up to 4.7GHz on all cores, 16MB Cache)
NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 2080 OC with 8GB GDDR6
16 GB Dual-Channel-DDR4 at 2.666 MHz
256 GB M.2-PCIe-NVMe-SSD + 2 TB SATA
Windows 10

I'd get 64GB of RAM…
and make sure it's Win10 Pro.
otherwise it looks fine - you don't NEED an RTX card

I want to emphasize Michaels' recommendation of RAM.
I run my system with 16 GB of ram…and really can't do anything with it that inspires me.
Although it's adequate for learning and trying things on a small scale…
Your likely to get frustrated/disappointed otherwise.
