Your computer probably meet the minimum requirement… ._.
there's lots of talks both here and www.odforce.net [odforce.net] regarding building houdini workstations.
here's one, http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_forum&Itemid=172&page=viewtopic&t=23977 [sidefx.com]

Hey there,
this is happening because Houdini uses camera space by default. Like what you read from other posts, rest position does the trick - here's a file, rest position (object space) took care of swimming noise.

The instructor for this video tutorial showed how to get rid of it on Mac OS, wished i could tell you at which part of the video it was but vimeo is not streaming where i am now, sorry.

I'm kind of surprised there isnt a 100% way of checking besides looking frame by frame…
When a bad image shows up on mplay - it's indicated in red text and thought that image file would be “tagged bad image” in it's file info or something then users could actually run those files through a script and capture any image file with that tag - which was what you mentioned.
Render wrangler sounds like the worst job ever for movie goers, spoilers… hehe.
Thanks Peter!

Neat trick, i got another question and sorry to hijack this thread for abit.
Is there an automated way of locating which are the bad frames within a sequence, it's exhausting to play through the whole thing. Thanks in advance!

From my understanding, the education license over at my institute expires every couple of months and a new build will be installed upon renew of the license. Gotta go double check, if that's the case - i'm out of luck… hehe.

Hi hi,
was rendering pyrofx volcano, it got up till frame 140 and stopped. This error came up when i attemped to resume the render again (both via command line and within hip file mantra). Dont remember making any key changes to the file… anybody know what this is saying? :?

Hey ,
I saw your file and i come to know there is something wrong with your voronoi fracture node.
what i did, simply i created new voronoi fracture node and connected it to same inputs which is working well. please have a look once.
Hi Santosh,
thanks for peeking into the file!
i'm feeling jinxed… did what you said and it still didnt build the pieces.
Can you attach the fixed file here? :?

May i ask whats DMM?

The only other big alternative I see for advanced fracturing which is currently not part of houdini is DMM.

Hello people,
in the file below, i have a projectile transferring color attribute to a wall and subdividing the area receiving the color, and finally performing voronoi fracture.
The faces after the fracture looks messy and there are holes, the faces where it's subdivided also did not build the interior faces. Tried setting up without the subdividing network and the faces are built nicely.
Anybody can give me a hint or be kind enough to check out the file?
Cheers!

If you are referring to those bandings,
- Decreasing the Volume Step Size on your Mantra ROP
- Change Volume Filter to Gaussian (import_pyro_build geo > Render Tab > Shading Tab)
Increase the Pixel Samples, Ray Samples and Sampling Quality (env_light) will help eliminate the noise, gotta play around with the numbers to see what gives you quality render at reasonable render time, have funn!

Hello,
1) An expression such as $FF >= 50 in Activition parameter of the Force DOP would make it active at frame 50 or higher.
2) You could group by expression using Group SOP, say $VZ > 5.0 and points that evalute true would be placed in the group, maybe that's not what you want and i'm sure there's a much better approach than mine.
Hope these helps!

Hey,
if the place you are attending the course got workstation provided and you dont see the need of having a portable workstation - i would recommend you get a desktop instead! Dell XPS series are good and they have the best customer/technical assistance via phone i've seen so far.
Not being bias but i believe its best to go for an nvidia g.card, seen too many users having problems with other brands.

Hello,
believe is Fur Procedural Shader is what you need!
http://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini12.0/shelf/addfur [sidefx.com]
http://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini12.0/nodes/shop/vm_geo_fur [sidefx.com]
It's better to work with low settings and get rough look first before rendering with higher settings. My guess is rendering fur is computationally intensive… hence your system specification play a part too.
