To uninstall Houdini,

1. Open the Houdini Installer

2. Click the gear icon to the right of the version you wish to uninstall

3. Choose “Uninstall” from the menu. If you have multiple versions of Houdini installed, you can use the checkboxes to uninstall multiple versions at once.

From the command line,

1. run houdini_installer uninstall <path>, where path is the path to the version of Houdini you want to uninstall. See Installer for more information on supported command line options.

To completely remove Houdini and all associated software:

1. Uninstall all versions of Houdini using the Houdini Installer

2. Remove other programs, such as HQueue Client and Server, License Server, SideFX Labs, etc. if they are installed.

3. Clean up SHFS files by choosing “Clean up SHFS Files” from the launcher GUI or run houdini_installer clean-shfs from the command line. You must do this after removing all versions of Houdini.

4. Uninstall the Houdini installer by running the uninstall utility. When prompted, choose to remove hserver.

   Windows

   The uninstaller program is Uninstall Houdini Launcher.exe, found in the Houdini Installer installation directory (by default, C:\Program Files\Side Effects Software\Launcher). You can also use the Add/Remove Programs feature in Windows to uninstall the Houdini Installer.

   Linux

   The uninstaller program is uninstall_houdini_launcher.sh, found in the Houdini Installer installation directory (by default, /opt/sidefx/launcher).

Your Houdini preferences wil remain in $HOUDINI_USER_PREF_DIR (See Environment variables for the path on your system). If you want to, you may remove these folders manually. The installer cannot remove the Houdini preferences folders.
