I have just installed Houdini 8.0.458 on my computer and I've tried using Houdini programs, but everytime I try to use any of the Houdini programs (Master, Select, Halo, Escape) it keeps bringing up the Houdini Console with the words, “(Random Numbers) Fatal Error: Floating Point Exception”, and when I prees the close button it brings up an error message and closes the houdini program.
WHAT DO I DO?
PLEASE HELP!!!!

Can you bring up the License Administrator? If not, which nVidia driver are you running? Otherwise, you could try downloading 8.0.410.

I can't bring up the License Administrator either; it comes up with an error message, and forces me to close the License Administrator. I'm running the latest Nvidia driver, Forceware 81.95…

Hmm, now that I think of it, I doubt it's your video drivers. Perhaps you could try setting the environment variable HOUDINI_DISABLE_SSE to 0 under My Computer (right-click) > Properties > Advanced > Environment Variables. If that doesn't work, then try setting HOUDINI_OGL_SOFTWARE to 1.

I have set both HOUDINI_DISABLE_SSE to 0 and HOUDINI_OGL_SOFTWARE to 1, but it is still coming up with the same error message!!!
I've even installed it on my laptop and its coming up with the same message; my laptop is a Dell Latitude C610, it has 128 MB of ram, it has a 1GHz intel pentium three processor, it uses an onboard ATI mobility radeon graphics card, and windows XP is installed on it…
Both my computer and my laptop are networked together and I use them both regularly…
Could the problem be a network problem?

Perhaps you could try 8.0.410 first. I'm running out of ideas …
