It would be great if we can set the name of a node with global variables and channels especially in Solaris.

You would have to elaborate on this as that doesn't sound great at all, if would constantly invalidate all paths and dependencies causing chain reaction of unnecessary cooking

Do you mean changing just readable Label something like descriptive parm does to add more info to network editor rather than the actual node name?
