Hi guys,

Been having a few stability issues as of late. Specifically H9.2** and now with the latest build H9.3** which I downloaded about 1hr30 minutes ago and in the short time its been installed ive had a random crash and lost what I was working on. Unfortunatly the crash resulted in no .hipnc file to upload to support this.

I cant be 100% sure its not something in my machine causing this, but I thought I would mention it anyways.

The crashes have been totally random, so random I cant actually attempt to pin point what or where. This time I was entering an expression in a pointSOP to translate points using colour from a copnet with the pic(), on a grid that was created by lines copied onto one another.

Here is the info I have for my system…

Windows Vista™ Ultimate 64-bit
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.4GHz
3198MB RAM
2196MB used, 4434MB available (page file)

NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS
7.15.0011.8048 (driver version)
11/12/2008 14:54:00 (driver date)

Houdini 9.5.303 64-bit platform

I collected this from computer management

Faulting application hmaster.exe, version 9.5.0.303, time stamp 0x492fb73b, faulting module libUI.dll, version 9.5.0.303, time stamp 0x492fbd4f, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0000000000091804, process id 0x10d0, application start time 0x01c96a9d4b4e9931.

Faulting application hmaster.exe, version 9.5.0.303, time stamp 0x492fb73b, faulting module nvoglv64.dll, version 7.15.11.8048, time stamp 0x491b6876, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x000000000031668c, process id 0x10d0, application start time 0x01c96a9d4b4e9931.

This was 1 hour previous with an the older version prevoiusly mentioned. Same system/specs as above…

Faulting application hmaster.exe, version 9.5.0.241, time stamp 0x48ddf055, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 6.0.6001.18000, time stamp 0x4791adec, exception code 0xc0000374, fault offset 0x00000000000a6e97, process id 0x106c, application start time 0x01c96a976846d969.

I did a search but didnt see anything at first glance that rang any bells, so I thought I would post this.

If its my end (which I will be looking into) then I apologise, however if it is a bug of some sort then this might be valuble information for you.

Cheers

Are there no crashlog_* files in your $TEMP?

You probably want to confirm your nVidia driver version … Right-click on your desktop and choose the nvidia control panel thing. In the bottom left hand corner should be a button/link for system information.

Hi Edward,

My NVidia driver version is confirmed as 180.48
I have a feeling that the drivers from NVidia may be the problem. For ages every now and again my display driver crashes whilst using H9 (doesnt do with H8 though), and the beta ones are terrible for me. All that happens with that is the screen goes black, the processor spikes to 100% until I close H9 with the task manager.

There is a crashlog and this is all that is in there. I doubt that this will correspond to the above issue as Houdini had another “Fatal Error” since then, and this is the only crash log I can find.

Sorry, I don't know what to say. I haven't been using an nVidia card for a while now and the last version I used (which seemed stable) was like 169.XX. Maybe other people can chime in as to which nVidia drivers they're using on Windows 64-bit.

yeah, the 180 series has been very very bad to me so far.

I'm running 178.24 rather reliably at this point.

Also, if you have a repeatable crash, try turning off dualview. That's been the culprit occassionaly.
