I'm not sure if anyone else is having this issue or not but when I bring up the textport or the expression editor my cursor has to be within the window for me to be able type. In other words if the cursor isn't within the expression editor window it won't type.
Not only that by when Houdini is trying to guess what I'm typing and the mouse cursor just happens to fall within the list then I'm unable to continue typing. I have to have the cursor within the window but down by a corner.
Is this an issue for anyone else or is this standard?

Ok, so let me ask this… why do the particles in this file meet in the middle of the bottom plane? why don't they just fall onto the plane?

So, I really like the technique that Jason over at 3dBuzz used to create the tornado. There are methods that I like and methods that I didn't like. I really liked how he created the vortex but then started to wonder…. with the method that he use… can an object attract particles? With the method he used I wasn't able to attract particles to rotate around a mesh.
I tried another technique using “Source from Geometry” but I didn't like it to much. The particles were kind of going all over the place and couldn't get them to do what I wanted. I used the “Attractor” and “Orbit” and couldn't get anything out of it either. What would work to get this type of effect going?
So what I have so far is a particle emitter hovering over my tornado. What I want is when the emitter emits the particles for the tornado geometry to attract them and have them rotate around itself.
Attached are some screenshots of what I have so far. As you can see the emitter is emitting the particles but aren't paying any attention to the mesh. What suggestions can you guys give me to accomplish this?

Well, just to keep it simple:
!. Create a curve
2. Resample with 12 segments
3. On the character tab click on “ Bones from curve” and create 12 bones
That's all I have so far. I know that in Maya you can create clusters and in 3ds max, if I'm not mistaken, they're called knots. So what I want to do is to have it were I can make it snake like. That way when I move the bone segments the spline moves along with it to.
I'm sorry if I'm not explaining well but I'm hoping that one can atleast help me out a bit so that I can further my explanation.
p.s. attached is a screenshot of something similar to what I need. I got this screenshot from the internet. I want the bones to do exactly that.

Ok, so this is going to be close to impossible for me to explain considering I have no background in rigging but, I'm going to go ahead and give it a try.
I originally created a spline that controls the shape of a geometry. What I want to do now is to set up a rig that will control the spline.
So here's what I have so far… and to simplify things I'm going to use a simple vertical spline with 12 segments. I used the “Bones From Curvature” button on the “Character” tab created 7 bones leading down the spline. That's all I have so far.
What I want now is 4 control points to where I can control the curvature of the set of bones bones. I want the bones to create something like a tail or snake effect to where it's flexible. IN the end I want this to be the backbone of my tornado. Savy?
So where can I go from here? If nobody knows, can someone point me out to a simple tutorial or rigging video? Thanks in advance.

Hey, tamte! Yeah, I for some reason wasn't paying attention to that. For some reason I was thinking it was the sphere and not the tube. So what I ended up doing earlier today was converting the tube to a polygon and making some other minor changes.
Anyways, I started with a new scene file and everything worked out fine. Attached is the new scene if anyone cares. Thank you all for being patient and helping out.

Hey, JColdrick! Thank you for the prompt response. I apologize…. I uploaded the wrong scene file. I am aware that you can't directly convert an RBD object to a cloth/dentable. I've uploaded the new scene file.

Ok, So I've been playing with cloth today and I've been stuck all day trying to figure an issue out. So I originally create a plane, a tube and a sphere. I make the plane a static object and and the sphere and the tube an RBD Object. The tube is one a pin constraint so once it swings down it hits the sphere and the sphere hits the ramp.
The issue comes in when I turn the sphere into a dentable object. in my dop network under clothsolver I get an error saying “Error cannot solve: Static/RBD Objects have bad or non-polygonal geometry”. The sphere is already a polygon…. so I don't know what's going on. Can anyone lend me a hand?

Sorry for the inconvenience guys. I think I figured the problem out. Under Collisions > Surface > Surface Represent…> I changed it to Edges instead of Points.

Ok, so I started all over again. I created everything I did previously without moving any of my objects from it's original positions. I moved my sphere up and hit play… it dropped and bounced. So everything is looking good there.
Then, I alter the mesh of the plane and move the sphere up higher and further back and when I hit play the sphere falls, bounces and then falls through. So…. still having the same issues.

So ever since I've switched to the mac version of H10 I've been having nothing but problems. I just want to make sure no one else if having this problem before I decide to submit it as a bug.
I create a simple grid object and make it a static object. I then create a sphere and make it and RBD object. When I hit play the sphere hits the grid object and falls through. I don't recall ever having this problem in H9. Any day what I might be missing?

Hello! I've had this problem happen to me twice. When I've been in Houdini for a couple of hours it seems to freeze. It freezes and you can't even close it. You have to force quit in order to close it. Is anyone else having this issue on their iMacs?

If you bought it to test on the Mac after March 31st then we will send you a license over the next few days. If you bought it for LINUX/Windows after May 12th then you will also be sent a license.
Robert
Well that's not good. Seeing that I purchased mine on the 10th of May I guess I should have waited an extra 2 days. How much are updates for HD versions?
p.s. Originally I purchased it to test it on the Mac but upon install I noticed that it was 64-bit only. (bad luck on that too. i purchased the CoreDuo 2 months before the release of the Core2Duos)

OK so I just purchased the Apprentice HD version a couple of weeks ago. If I want to run 9.5 I have to purchase another license? How much is the upgrade HD version for 9.5?
EDIT: OOOOPS… I just noticed your quote, “Details about all of this will be available next week when we make the formal announcement. Please save questions until then.”

I don't think this question has been asked but I'm a little curious. I've seen a person or two with Houdini shirts on and am wondering if they're up for sale somewhere. I did a quick search on internet but didn't find anything. Wouldn't mind having a couple of them.

My apologies. I must have missed Robert's post. I figured that since 1.) you were getting different answers and 2.) you couldn't read the actual posts… that I would post a link to the actual thread where the posts could be read.
p.s. Disregard if my post was not useful.
