I'm running Houdini 16.5.547 on a (new) Windows 10 MSI GS65 laptop. Everything was working fine until today when I suddenly starting getting constant crashes. They seem to mostly happen when I do things like open the “tab” menu to drop down a SOP.

The only thing that changed today was that I edited the ENV file to activate Redshift. But have since removed the changes and uninstalled Redshift and the error is still happening.

Has anyone had anything similar to this? It's driving me mad and I'm not sure where to troubleshoot anymore.

there have been some issues with Windows updates, this has been fixed in the latest Houdini 16.5 builds
try Houdini 16.5.561 - this is the latest build

Or kill any sound related stuff from the system tray, for example I have an ASUS rog laptop, I need to exit the Sonic Studio, which has an icon on the system tray, no crashes after.

at the moment your solution seems to work properly on my Rog too… I was getting mad.

Does that work for Houdini 17 as well ? I am going to try this later tonight.

Yes, it works properly (in my system) with v.17.

And also worked for 17.5 crashing on the Sonic Studio 3. Uninstalled it and smooth as silk.
