Hey guys, I have searched the forums, and most of the ATI video card discussion is based on either:
1- mobile ati card
2- installing the license for the apprentice version
so I hope I'm not repeating anything. Now I have an ATI x1600 512ram (it's not the best card, but futureshop made a type on the price tag, selling it for 120 instead of 220, so I had to buy it). Performence should be very good, I mean it might not be the best card, but my older pc, with a gefore 5700ultra, ran houdini apprentice perfectly. With that said, I have the catalyst drivers that came with the hardware, but is this what I need…I get frequent crashes, lag, no-viewport refresh (by the way, is there a button or shortcut to refresh the active viewport?). What drivers should I use, can you guys give me a link perharps.

Have you tried going to ATI's site [ati.amd.com] to download the latest drivers? Sometimes, the manufacturer's driver might not be up to date.

If the latest ATI drivers still does not work, you might want to give the Omega Drivers [omegadrivers.net] a try.

I'm on Fedora and I've FireGl V5400 (and V3200) and I use 8.29.xx drivers release… cause 8.30.xx gave me some issues… oh.. and I only use ATI drivers… which works 100% for me.

I'm using the up to date ones from ATI's site..I dunno, still buggy. Should I try the omega ones, or should I stay away from them in your opinions?

i have an ati.i lived all the nightmare stuff,that is both mentioned,and not mentioned in here and odforce several times. i was barely thinking abaout to shifting to a nvidia. but decide to give ati a last shot.

** just arrange HOUDINI_OGL_DBL_BUFFER_FIX=1

and ati turned back to life. at the moment i am very happy with it.

although there is some kind of solution on this, any of you decide to buy a new computer,or build a new system to run houdini as a main purpose,it is wise to choose other than ati.

what does this mean?

under envirement variables
type HOUDINI_OGL_DBL_BUFFER_FIX as variable name.
and assign a value of 1.

beleive me this is the cure.
