Where can I find all the documentation regarding environment variables that affects the running of Houdini 5.5?

I have seen mentioned of the following

HOUDINI_OGL_SOFTWARE
HOUDINI_OGL_HARDWARE
HOUDINI_OGL_DBL_BUFFER_FIX
HOUDINI_OGL_DISABLE_RASTER_IN_OVERLAY_TEST

but where is the definitive list and and explaination of their purposes?

I have been putting off showing Houdini to my company because the GUI display has been horrendously slow, I am running GeForce4, 512MB RAM and 2.4Gig Pentium4. That should be a pretty decent machine.

in a shell or at the command line type “hconfig -h” (without the quotes)

or better yet type: hconfig -h > foo.txt
as the list is pretty long

Hi Nicholas,

To get the list of environment variables, please type 'hconfig -h' in a shell.

You can also type 'hconfig -h HOUDINI_OGL_SOFTWARE' for definition of a specific variable.

For hconfig's help info, please type 'hconfig -'.

By the way, there isn't HOUDINI_OGL_HARDWARE, just HOUDINI_OGL_SOFTWARE.

May I know what OS & which graphics driver version are you using? Also, which GeForce 4 card? MX? Ti?

It seems like the old double buffer bug has crept back into the recent Nvidia drivers ( 41.09 ) so try setting HOUDINI_OGL_BUFFER_FIX to 1 & let us know how it goes.

Cheers!

Thanks Steven,

The HOUDINI_OGL_BUFFER_FIX solved my problem immediately (at least on a GeForce2 GTS on Windows2000). Yes, I am using the latest 41.09 driver. It was running a GeForce Ti on Windows XP Professional in the office.

Now I can even run Houdini on my ancient GeForce 2 GTS on Windows2000 at home.

Way cool!

Next thing is to port my RenderMan shaders to VEX.

: The HOUDINI_OGL_BUFFER_FIX doesn't seems to help for a GeForce4 Ti 4600 on a WindowsXP Professional (also with drivers 41.09)

The button icon are being drawn very slowly. Should HOUDINI_OGL_BUFFER_FIX be use in conjunction with other environment variable on WindowsXP and GeForce4 Ti?

Seems odd that a GeForce 2 GTS + 800MHz Duron is more responsive (GUI wise) than a GeForce4 Ti + 2.4GHz Pentium4.

Cheers
