This is killing my workflow, any idea guys? I literally have to keep my nose on the Mplay flipbook preview to retsrat it everytime it stops, it's far from ideal.

Did you try setting your timeline to start at frame 0 while keeping your solver's star at frame 1?

Not sure that helps, but from what i can see it does look like it's working. Your VDB is def desaturated. Only the red self-illum isn't, most likely from your temperature attrib, so it seems like Houdini did the job as expected here. or am i missing somehting?
