Hi people - i'm trying something very simple - to export a Houdini Alembic to Maya.

I've exported the alembic using an ROP from Houdini, but when I “Open Alembic” in Maya, Maya says “/HoudiniProjects/output2.abc not a valid Alembic file. //”
This seems to be the case no matter how I fidget with the settings.

I am able to re-import that very sane alembic back into Houdini, so apparently Houdini disagrees. I am also able to export a test Alembic from Maya, and then re-import it back into Maya (And also import it into Houdini).

Something's not adding up… any suggestions?

thanks in advance

Maya sometimes doesnt understand if some extra attributes are carried inside the ABD and makes the wrong connections, if you open you ABC in hypseshade or node editor to check connections you will see what I mean, One way to fix this without reexporting with cleaned attributes is to reconnect the mesh inside maya again,

I had the same issue exporting the ocean surface with cusp and maya was trying to connect the cusp attribute as mesh and was giving the same error.

If this is not clear explanation I can make some screencaptures if you want.

simple answer:

the default format on the alembic rop is set to “default” is ogawa (alembic 1.5), make sure you choose hdf5
