It would be amazing if anyone has any insight into this as I haven't found any other reference to this issue and can't think what it could be.

Since getting Houdini 15, I have had trouble with using it on a second monitor. I'm working from the highest spec MacBook Pro Retina and have it attached via HDMI to an 1920x1080 monitor. I have the latest version of OS X and have tried with two entirely separate laptops, screens and cables but to no avail. I had no issues with H14, so I imagine it's something to do with the higher res UI with H15, but beyond that have no idea where to start. I've also tried adjusting the display settings for both monitors and the UI resolution within Houdini preferences.

It seems to affect not only the GL display but also the other panes. Attached are two screenshots showing the result, in case that gives any clues.

If anyone has any pointers then I'd be immensely grateful!

Thanks in advance!

Toby

HI
Not sure if those glitches has anything to do with Houdini as i get the exact same happening in both After Effetcs and Cinema 4D and even Illustrator. My hunch is that this has to do with osx. Just my 2/100

Aha! Thanks so much for your reply - I hadn't even considered that. I'll start researching in that direction then. Really grateful for your help. Many thanks

Ah! I've just sorted it - downloaded a trial of a screen adjustment app and had to make both the macbook monitor and the screen monitor the same aspect ratio and it seems to then function fine. Hope this helps someone else.

This psychedelia is common with Qt + OGL and OsX - occurs with Mari, Nuke, Houdini on one and two screens, AMD and Nvidia.

Marty This is the first I've seen this issue and I use Nuke, Maya, Mari, Maxwell, V-Ray, Mudbox, Speedtree, Substance Painter/Designer and a ton of other Qt-based apps on OS X on external screens.

Thought it was fixed but it's not. Seems to occur when windows that are retina resolution are moved to non-retina screens.

I wonder then if some apps infect other apps - this is the loading circle arrow in Mari 3.0v2. Fresh restart, dual screen, Nvidia 980, Os 10.10.5, Mari is the first app to boot.

To prove my point, here are screenshots of other Qt apps on external screen on 2014 iMac retina with Radeon R9 M295X 4GB in OS X 10.11.3.

So here is the issue we're looking for (Houdini 15):

Other Qt apps after dragging the window to the same screen as above:

It's definitely Houdini 15 only. It didn't happen in 14 either. Maya 2016 has a Core Profile mode as well and it's not occurring there either. If someone actually can point to another instance of this occurring, I'd like to hear about it.

Marty - that looks like a bug for sure but not necessarily what we're seeing here. I suggest you log a bug with The Foundry but double check that your GPU is supported with Mari.

TBH I always thought that graphics corruption was common with OsX. Here the corruption is a picture in a pdf and some web thumbnails.

I'll make sure to grab the QT gui corruptions when they happen next.

It appears to be Octane corrupting the gui, though, I'm not really worried about this one.

I have multiple monitor issues, with Houdini and not with other programs. I have different issues with Yosemite and Win 7.

In both cases, if I start Houdini on the home screen (task bar or dock screen) and keep everything on that screen, things seem to work.

If I start Houdini on my MacBook Pro retina display and try to move the Houdini Screen to another monitor, the Houdini screen is bad, like the picture in the first post.

If I start Houdini on my Win 7 workstation's home screen and then drag it to another screen, the Houdini screen is ok, but dialogs are not usable. I can't even quit. This appears to be related to monitor resolution and aspect ratio.

I believe this is consistent across versions. In both cases I solve the problem by limiting Houdini to one monitor.

I'm having these exact same issues. I'm using a macbook pro with retina and a second 27"mac monitor. If I open Houdini and then move my window to my second monitor the window panes begin to overlap, the UI becomes completely broken.
If I move the window back down to the primary window the graphics completely glitch out much like the examples above.

I've been using Adobe and Autodesk products for the last 10-12 years and have never had this issue.
