Could you, please, elaborate? Which options don't you want to be able to change? The way Houdini works usually allows you to almost always change everything anywhere - only in cases where you have baked down some geometry for performance or other reason you may have to invalidate the cache.
So a tiny bit more help - like a video, an example file, a few screen captures - would go a long way helping people help you.
