How to maximize frame usage in flipbook

Hi everyone,

I was following the “simple explosion” tutorial from Luiz Kruel: https://vimeo.com/200396976 [vimeo.com]

When he creates the camera for the final render (at 3:55), he mentions that you could animate the camera to follow your explosion and maximize frame usage, which is very important for game usage.

The problem is that if I manually animate the camera it will never be centered to the center of the explosion and that will be a problem as the engine will not reproduce the flipbook properly.

So my question is how could I maximize frame space usage and keep every frame centered to the camera ?

I interpreted it as maximizing the explosion within your current frame. For example:
  • Center the initial small explosion
  • Perhaps zoom into it a bit
  • As the explosion grows, zoom back
  • As flames and smoke rise, pan up and zoom back some more
