How to Emit Particle from Emission Map?

I want to emit particles from texture map, like in Maya we emit thru the emit from texture option.

How to assign distribution area and texture map?

one possible way would be to use a pic/tex expression in a point sop to lookup point colors based on your texture map and then use one of the color channels in the probability field of your source pop

I remember David Johnson had a great way of doing this with a UV lookup to COPs…
