I can install Nuke from the terminal pretty easily and I can see the install working for Houdini's app:
sudo installer -pkg /Volumes/Nuke${NUKEVERSION}/Nuke${NUKEVERSION}-mac-x86-release-64.pkg -target /
but the way you license rlm for Nuke is by putting a .lic file in “/Library/Application Support/TheFoundry/RLM/”. I don't of a similar location for Houdini but I can start digging around.

I think that has more to do with the limitations of OpenGL than it does the driver. I don't know if any driver that can context switch from CL to GL without performance issues. This is one advantage of newer stateless APIs

sorry if this is covered since I'm skimming but are there plans to support multiple GPUs for OpenCL solvers (pyro, FLIP, etc) in Houdini?

1) Create a cube
2) Change desktop to Animate mode
It will crash. Happens on both AMD and Nvidia so I think this might be an issue with Houdini. Tried with both 14.291 production build and 331 nightly

27 Inch iMacs are pretty robust these days. The only problem is that 27 Inch retina iMac uses an AMD card and Mac OS X don't have native AMD drivers. Apple drivers are not really good for Houdini. Having said that heat is not a big issue there. The drivers are. If you definitely want to go with a Mac platform I would recommend the non retina version that uses the Nvidia card, otherwise go with a workstation.
LOL whut? You are beyond misinformed. AMD writes their drivers for OS X, just like Nvidia does. They're built into the OS and released with point updates of the OS. The reason Nvidia releases their own separate drivers is because they have third party products for Mac.

thanks - where do I set the env var? Is it a terminal thing or do I set it in a Houdini text file, like Maya's Maya.env?
