I think the problem might be inside the visualization node inside the debris sop. When turned off things work partially.

These single quote and double quotes are referred to C/C++ language where single quote is used for single character and the other one is used for multiple characters.
for example:There's not much differences between them in both VEX and Hscript unless in rare situations where you are dealing with nested strings for instance:char sinleChar = 'A'; char multiChar = "Hello World";Which prints:printf("%s", "'Houdini is the best!'");In this case single quotes are included in the string.'Houdini is the best!'
But if you try this:Houdini gives you an error!printf("%s", ""Houdini is the best!"");
Hope this helps!

It's probably related to the discrete vs. mobile driver. I don't know why, but Apple's OpenGL implementation seems a whole lot worse with mobile GPUs (eg. GT650M) than discrete GPUs (GEForce 980). I'll pass this along to a developer with a GT650M to see if he can reproduce it and perhaps come up with a workaround.

This is unfortunately what happens when Apple's OpenGL driver drops to software rendering in order to complete a draw call. Sometimes this software render completes in a reasonable time, other times it takes so long that Houdini appears to hang.
Have you tried a recent Houdini build? Are you running OSX 10.10.2 or .3?
