Yes, I do everything like you have described. I don't know what is going on.
Performance of processors (benchmark Cinebench 11.5):
3960X - 10.5
3770K - 7.5
I think that the difference in render time should not be 3x

Artye
Simple grey grid, headlamp light:
1k * 1k takes 1sec
3k * 3k takes 9sec
Same grid with Env light:
1k * 1k takes 1sec
3k * 3k takes 16sec
Hello again. I create default grey grid 3k * 3k with default lighting, I turn off “Preview” and “Auto Update” in Render View. Rendering this grid on my computer with Intel i7 3770K and 16 GB RAM takes 1 minute and 6 seconds instead of 9 seconds. Do you think my computer's processor is 7.3 times slower than processor of Artye's computer? I just don't get it.

OMG So that's why I didn't see much difference I always thought that it's graphic card that is responsible for everything regarding simulations and rendering.

I run fluids simulation. I turned on “Use OpenCL” in solver (thanks for this information) and now my GPU Load is higher but still very low - around 8-10%.
I have also very long render times of simple things such as default grey grid - 3000x3000 in PBR it takes around 30 seconds for others and for me it's 1 minute (2 min 40 seconds if I don't turn off preview).
I thought that render time depends on graphics card but during rendering I have 2% GPU load. Is it normal?

Hello,
I have switched my card from low-end geforce bought around 2,5 years ago to PNY Quadro M4000 and to my surprise the difference in performance was not so big.
I decided to check my computer on GPU-Z software while running simulations and rendering. It shows that GPU Core Clock jumps from 135 MHz (when idle) to 772 MHz but what is interesting GPU Load stays extremely low - that is below 3%!! Does it mean that my processor (Intel i7) is calculating almost everything?
When I test computer on 3DMark GPU Load goes to 100%.
Can anyone explain to me what is going on? I would be very grateful if you could try GPU-Z and let me know what are your results.

Hi, Could you please advise how important for simulations and rendering is double precision performance of graphics card? I would like to know if it makes sense to buy professional graphics card that has better double precision performance than the card for gamers.

OK, I rendered ordinary grey grid in 1000x1000 resolution - render time 6 seconds. Then I did the same in 3000x3000 resolution and the time was 3 minutes. Can anyone advise why the difference in time is so huge? It's only 9 times bigger image and render time is 15 times longer. When there is a shader the difference is even bigger.

I render the same image in 800x800 resulution in 9 seconds, so it's ok. The difference between this resolution and 3000x3000 render time is huge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why is it so big?

Hi,
I rendered a simple grid with material assigned to it in 3000x3000 px resolution. It took 6 min 37 seconds on my computer with very strong Intel i7 processor and 16 GB RAM. Why does it take so long to render such simple geometry? Am I doing something wrong?
I am affraid to think how much will it take to render complicated scene with millions of polygons or particles 8^(

Thank you for your answer, however I don't think it explains why I do not receive a result looking like the one from tutorial.
Any object I create with GOLD material are almost invisible in render view when I apply area or default lights. They are also strongly overexposed when I create environment light.
Can anyone advise how to render gold material correctly?

Hi, I would be grateful if you could help me.
I am watching this tutorial: https://vimeo.com/142534640 [vimeo.com]
and when I add gold material to the rubbertoy it doesn't show up in render window when there is default lighting.
When I add environment light the rubbertoy is way too overexposed, and changing light intensity doesn't make it look like on this tutorial.
Could you please advise what I do wrong? I will appreciate any help.
