Combining two uneven Meshes

Hi!
I'm trying to combine two uneven meshes and I have no idea how to go about it. I'd like them to be just one whole mesh. I'd appreciate any help.

Would a merge and a following fuse be a help ? maybe preceded with a convert, to have polygons only ?
