ONI | Megalis
For Netflix's animated series 'ONI: Thunder God's Tale', the artists at Tokyo-based studio Megalis were tasked with bringing to life puppet-like characters with a stop-motion aesthetic.
ONI was originally planned to be analog stop-motion, but pivoted to a full CG production. Like most studios, Megalis uses an established Houdini pipeline for VFX, but for ONI decided to jump into Houdini's Solaris context for lighting, layout and lookdev. Watch this Houdini Connect feature to learn how Megalis implemented this new workflow, and how their their small-sized team came up big by completing over 2,000 shots for ONI.
