OCEANS & FLUIDS
Houdini includes many different techniques for making, shaping and bending fluids such as water or lava. Maintain total control as you deform fluid shapes, direct the look of a stormy ocean, or calm a water simulation. Add white water, ripples, dripping water, variable viscosity, bubbles and more to refine your simulation.
Pyro FX lets you create high detailed fire, smoke and explosions using Houdini’s production-proven solvers. Houdini’s non-destructive workflow gives you control at every stage of the process as you generate simulations that get your shots approved.
Choose OpenCL for faster results or work at a huge scale using distributed simulations on a CPU-based farm. Use Viewport visualizers to analyse and refine your effects while clustered simulations offer further optimizations for smoke trails and fast-moving source objects.
PIPELINE IN A BOX
With Houdini’s procedural workflows, all the steps needed to set up a shot are represented by networks of nodes which are maintained deep into production. This lets you make last minute creative decisions that would be too costly in a traditional CG pipeline. Package up your networks into Houdini Digital Assets then share them with other Houdini artists or artists working in host applications such as Autodesk Maya or Unreal using Houdini Engine plug-ins.
LOOKDEV, LAYOUT & LIGHTING
Houdini Solaris provides a flexible and powerful environment for managing lights, building shaders and defining the look of a shot. This suite of look development, layout and lighting tools empowers artists to create USD-based scene graphs that go from asset creation to final render.
Houdini now comes with the Karma render which works directly with USD and is integrated into the Solaris environment. Artists can also access third party renderers such as Pixar RenderMan, Autodesk Arnold, Maxon Redshift, and V-Ray.
Bring your characters to life, with Character FX such as cloth, finite elements for muscles, and wire dynamics for fur. High quality CFX are becoming critical to achieve accurate, realistic results over long simulations. Houdini gives you complete control over these effects to add new levels of realism to your creatures and characters. Houdini is also the best tool for creating interactions between characters and elements such as water, dirt or snow.
CHARACTERS & CROWDS
Quickly set up characters using the KineFX toolset to edit motion to work with rigs created in Houdini or retargeted from other applications.
Create characters using digital assets and reference them into multiple shots. Houdini’s crowd system uses artist-friendly shelf tools along with a new packed agent primitive type, a Finite State Machine solver and hardware accelerated display of instanced crowds.
