Heightfield Reaction

This project explores the Reaction Diffusion solver in Houdini 21 to create organic, ever-evolving landscape effects. Starting from a simple reaction–diffusion pattern, we’ll see how to transform it into a dynamic height map for heightfields.

The setup also demonstrates how to combine erosion data with COPs to design custom texture maps. To see everything, the package includes a Solaris/Karma scene that showcases how the resulting landscapes can be lit, shaded, and rendered.

Use this file as a jumping-off point to learn how COP solvers can bridge 2D and 3D workflows in Houdini.

This example requires a SideFX Labs installation.
