License server error launching Houdini?

Hi guys,

I'm using Houdini Apprentice and I've never ran into an issue before, but I downloaded 18.5 to try it out and I can't even open the app, it can't find the license server. I tried reinstalls, restarts, etc but still nothing. Usually I just fire it up, it grabs a license, and I can play around in Houdini. Even manually opening the licensing utility doesn't do anything. Anyone else having this issue?

Lots of people had this issue lately. Try to reinstall the license and make sure to activate the “Reinstall SERVER key” button.

Unfortunately I don't even have that option. License Administrator just has an “Installed Licenses” and “Server Information” tab. Under “Installed Licenses” it says “Log in to get started” (which I never had to do before) but if I click it and enter my account login it just says “Your SideFX account exists, but does not have the ability to manage licenses.”

I'm opening Houdini apprentice, but it's almost like the license manager is looking for a licensed version of Houdini :/

Found it! It's no longer in a check box, it's under File -> Change Server.

If anyone else is having the same problem you just have to wait for the license server to time out in order to be able to select it. It took over a minute on my machine. Once you do that you can reinstall the license but there's a ton of hanging and it'll look like it froze, but it eventually installs a new license and you can launch Houdini.
