Houdini narrowband FLIP tank simulation is used along with a whitewater sim using extra sources to simulate screw(propeller) wake. The final comp is made up of 4 separate elements (infinite ocean, simulated ocean, white water foam and the CG ship) rendered in Mantra and comped in Nuke.

The initial idea for the shot came from the film "Captain Phillips" in which the protagonist captain's ship MV Maersk Alabama is shown in the establishing helicopter shot with what appears to be a zoom lens.

Note: It looks like YouTube compression/frame interpolation makes the waves look a bit stuttery. The actual comp doesn't have this issue.
