This was my submission to the 3D Community Challenge Kinetic Rush, a one month challenge, hosted by Clinton Jones on YouTube. Most of my project was created in Houdini, except for some modeling, animation and the video editing.

I started my layout on Maya and then completed it in Houdini. To create the first part of my environment I used Vellum simulation and then sculpted it with Vellum Brush to create a sort of blanket fort . For the fort I also modeled pillows with Planar Inflate that I then also sculpted with Vellum Brush. To fill my scene a bit more I instanced various objects and scattered some hair in the tent environment. To add a bit more life to the scene I also scattered points around the scene to create a dust atmosphere along with a Karma Fog Box.

My first charcater was animated with a retargeted animation given and required by the challenge but my second animation, my little snail, was animated with various Bends of masked sections and some CHOPS to add some jiggle.

I did the Lookdev, the lighting and shading of all of my scene in Solaris, using attributes to control my shading and a Karma Lens Shader for a better visual look . The project was rendered entirely with Karma CPU, and I finalized it by compositing in the new COPS system. I composited with my various LPE tags and technical passes with a 4K render which worked great however I was not able to have a real time playback and watch my work animation because it was so heavy, this led to me being only able to comp one frame at a time. I comped my first and second environment separately and could only see my final result if I exported all of my frames and then put them into Davinci Resolve. I loved using Cops for its linear workflow and many similarities to Substance Designer and the fact that all the nodes were straightforward and easy to understand.
