Hi,
is there a kown issue with mac client - windows server in terms of licensing.
the network conncetion should be ok but h can not connect to the lic server “ cannot connect -server not running” ? …

It could also be related to the DNS name resolution problems. The client (hserver) may try to connect to “your-mac-name.local” for licensing, and it may not be able to resolve that name.
For non-commercial use, it's probably best to use the local licensing mode, which does not rely on the server but rather verifies license within Houdini. The simplest way to switch that is to reinstall Houdini and choose that mode in one of the installation steps.
Otherwise you may need to tweak DNS (or /etc/hosts) to configure the name resolution.
