Hey everyone,
So my mind is being blown. I deleted the velocity attribute from an object that was sim'd and it still has motion blur at render time in Mantra & Redshift... is the motion blur not actually being calculated from the velocity attribute?

by default no unless you explicitly set object property to compute Geometry Velocity Blur from Velocity or Acceleration
otherwise you will get only Camera and Object Transform morion blur
and if geosamples are at least 2 and your geometry has consistent pointcount across the frames needed for shutter range it will do deformation blur
so essentially you can still see certain type of motion blur even without v
using motion blur from v attribute is mostly for objects with changing topology to mimic the deformation blur
