I am trying to make a corrugated metal sheet simulation in Vellum. I tried different constraints however I wasn't able to come up with a satisfying result.
Corrugated metal sheets bend only in one direction.
I basically tried cloth constraint with rigid bend stiffness. Then I used strut constraints. I also gave a try to shape-match constraints with only selecting top or bottom points. All in all, I can manage to get a rigid surface... However getting the surface rigid in only one direction is still challanging.
is there a way to achieve the results like these images where the gravity and physics are visible in the simulation:
I'd first try just a simple cloth preset with high bend stiffness before adding other constraint types into the mix, your bend stiffness is extremely low
however Vellum requires enough constraint iterations and or substeps to resolve stiff constraints so you will for sure need to increase those to see the effect
also reducing resolution of your geo in the direction it doesnt need to bend as much will help
thanks for your reply! Very helpful. I never thought of modifying the geometry at all. I was on my laptop doing quick tests with low sub-steps & low contraint iterations. With this setup the effect is there! thank you very much.
