Just want to let you know that in Houdini 11.0.744, each frame starts a separate instance of Maxwell Render for every frame, and every instance renders the sequence submitted. So if you submit 200 frames, 200 instances of Maxwell render will render 200 frames. My computer started glowing.

This is really a bug in the plug-in, soho calls the render in each frame and the plug-in opens Maxwell by each soho call. The fix will be available in the next release within two weeks I guess. Let me know if you need it before that and I can send it in private.

This is just on OSX, somehow it doesn't like icon definitions wich point to otls. It will be fixed in the next release. Thanks.

Maxwell appears in the shelves of houdini but doesn't start he render.
How do I edit the %PATH% variable to include the %MAXWELL2_ROOT% directory?

Hi astro,

the plug-in uses the MAXWELL2_ROOT environment variable as the default, but it's possible to override the path in Houdini. You can set it in the Edit -> Preferences -> Maxwell Render Settings… window.
But of course setting the environement variable can be also a solution. In windows, open the Control Panel, open System, select the Advanced tab and click on the Environment variables button.

I have a mac. I installed Houdini 11.0.5 and Maxwell 2.5.0
But I don't seem to find a plugin for it.
I tried the one that just released but it doesn't work
where can I find this version of the plugin

The plug-in is for the Houdini daily builds at the moment, and works with Maxwell 2.5.1. Houdini license is required to use the exporter.

Could you please try something if you have some time?
What if you render the scene with the Maxwell Render ROP, open the exported .mxs file in Studio and start Fire. If it runs well, there is something with the plug-in. If Studio crashes as well, then the bug is in the Fire engine. Sadly it will be a little bit hard to fix the bug if it appear only in very complex scenes.

could you give me some more details of the crash? You are using Windows7 64-bit, right? Which Houdini version do you try? Does it crash if you press the Render button in the ViewerPane only, or if you press the Render on the Maxwell Render ROP node?

About the “edit in material editor”. You're right, the changes in the MXM editor are not translated back to Houdini automatically right now. You have to save the mxm file, and load it in the Houdini SHOP node. I'm going to implement the automatic reload in the next release.

Because the plug-in uses a SOHO node, it does not work with the apprentice version, it requires a Houdini license.

Hi everyone,

I'm Peter, the developer of the plug-in. The current build is not compatible with 11.0.729 on OSX, so I made a new build which will be available to download today, hopefully.

The reason why the plug-in is built for daily builds: there was a bug in SOHO when the Mantra script was called instead of our script in some cases. Only workaround would have been to modify the Mantra script which we felt too risky. The bug was fixed in 11.0.707, so we released a beta version for the daily builds. Daily buids change fast and there could be compatibility issues with the new releases, but we have to live with that until a new production build is comig out. If you have any problems using the actual daily build, please let me know and I'm going to update the plug-in asap.

Hi,

I'm working on a custom ROP which requires triangle faces. The Divide SOP can be used for triangulation but an automatic way would be more comfortable. Is there a class or method in the HDK I could triangulate a geometry with?

Hi!

I have a preview image which I want to display in a custom window with the HDK. It works well with the following code:

RE_Server *server = RE_OGLRender::getServer();
RE_Window *previewWindow = server->newWindow(RE_MODE_RGB,RE_WINDOW_UTILITY);
previewWindow->openWindow();
RE_Render *render = previewWindow->getRender();
render->displayRaster(-(float)previewWidth/2.0f,-(float)previewHeight/2.0f,&raster);

but the close button on the top right of the window (which appears by default) does not has any effect. Is there a way to close the window when the user clicks on this button or make the button disappear somehow? Its very disturbing that the button is present but does nothing. When I call the closeWindow() function from the HDK the window is closed well.

Or can you suggest a better way to display the preview image?
