HELLO SIDE FX
Is there an update to this question please?
I'm trying to render snow (a blizzard) in Karma, and it looks BAD with basic particles.
i have been suggested sprites with opacity but to no avail in googled info?????
Thanks in advance,
5D

Technical Discussion » delete connected geo when any points contain something?

Dear SideFX-Forumers,
I have a come across a problem tonight that I can't work out.
I have a bunch of shapes.
I have done intersection tests and managed to store an attribute (x) that is greater than zero if the shapes are intersecting.
It is stored on every point.
So then I used the connectivity SOP and each shape has a class attribute at every point.
So now ... how do I delete every shape?
ie. VEX would be in non-VEX terms: if the attribute (x) is greater than zero delete ALL the geo that has the same class attribute number as this one
I just can't seem to get my head round it!
Thanks,
Nick

Technical Discussion » Using .sim with initial state in Vellum

Dear Forumers,
So I have used a FLIP .sim file as an initial state, fed back into the DOPNET containing another FLIP before.
Yesterday I discovered the Vellum SOP does not seem to have an Initial State parameter.
How can you feed the state of a Vellum sim back into another sim?
Thanks for any help in advance,
Nick

Ah OK. Apologies on making zombie thread lol!
Thanks for the advice, seems I must now know all I need to to get this to work.

You choose to use a SOP Solver DOP if you want to modify simulation geometry on the given DOP objects as the simulation marches forward. That's why it's called the SOP Solver DOP.
Does modify include translate? Or is it just more complex stuff or deformations etc? Is there a simpler way to just translate an inactive object as the simulation marches? Use a static object? But I want constraints to active packed geo to be dragged by an animated piece of geo.

Dear SideFXers,
I want to drag various pieces of fractured constrained geo with an animated piece of geometry (just at the edges of each).
How is it best or what are the various ways to achieve this?
Thanks for any help,
Nick

Boolean SOP will both cut at intersections and remove interior faces. Just wire your merged geometry in to the first input of the Boolean SOP.
Does that do what you want?
This tip is SOOOO AWESOME
Thanks

what speakers are they???
i think the problem is always with the speakers if you have a decent GPU

Dear Forumers,
I'm getting this error message in a file node in a DOPNET:
Error
Tried to load an invalid simulation state file.
Can't find any reference to it on Google
What's going on please?
Thanks
5D
UPDATE this is in fact happening with ALL my file nodes inside DOPNETS
filecache nodes in SOPs are fine

OK so checking out the tutorial, thanks.
I am curious to know as I proceed is SUCTION force 100% the way to go with this.
Not POP attract, somehow married with a cone???
What would be the pros and cons if both are possible?

I have a FLIP sim and need to art direct some of it and I can't seem to figure out how to push (or pull, guessing the difference isn't a major issue) one side of it in a cone shape. Also I'm hoping reseeding will fill in any weird holes that would maybe start to appear as a static "lump" of water is forced out by the cone?
I would upload my .hip and explain my whole project but it is HUGE and currently a major headache I'm trying to sort out myself in the spirit of attempting to learn this beast called Houdini!
Thanks in advance for any help.
Nick.

So with help from my friend we discovered that the input grounding point on both KRKs had intermittent issues when the jack was not located in an exact location showing possible dry soldering points in the input stage.
Going to change out input sockets another day when possible.

Zigmundsorry no. but kinda! in the end my 1/4inch jack connect into my active monitor after some accidental jiggling of it the noise seemed to stop. still kinda baffled.
Hey 5D, did you manage this issue? I have a similar problem, but not from the speakers but from the laptop case itself. The most weird thing is I did stress test to the GPu, CPU, SSD, HDD and there was no any weird sound. I tested some videogames and again nothing unusual. I even did some simulations in Houdini of previous versions and again it was normal, nothing weird. But as soon as i turn on simulation in houdini 19, it makes very low but weird sound from deep inside of my laptop. Sound like a microchip is doing something, or like r2-d2 is hiding inside my laptop))

Dear escape artists,
I have two SSDs and a NVMe drive.
Houdini system files, with Linux system, are on one SSD.
The other two are fairly empty.
I do some quite heavy simming and use .sims, although eventually make everything .bgeo.sc (I've heard this is better).
So if rendering or Mplaying or using viewport, what is the best way to spread files on the disks? (both reading stuff and writing EXRs)
I get that there are quite a few possible combos but is say, for example, putting EVERYTHING on NVMe the best option? I'm imagining not.
Thanks for any advice.
Peace
Nick
