Duh! I guess Somewhere between 12.0 and 12.1 Houdini Escape was replaced by Houdini and Houdini by Houdini FX.
Thanks for your help. I should have worked it out. Just always take a while to get things working again with the licences after a new install.

OK. In case it helps others. I tried to solve this on my own (Thanks sidefx). I resolved my issue by going to “display options” , then to the optimisation tab and unchecking the limit resolution box. Not sure what the consequences are but it got rid of all my viewport “artefacts”. Cheers Eric

I was told by support to put in a line “HOUDINI_OGL_SOFTWARE = 1” in the houdini.env file. This did not work for me but it may work for you.

Well, I um'd and ah'd thinking about a way to use houdini when away from home. I need a powerful light laptop so finally splashed out on a Del XPS 15z. However, I think I have an openGl problem. Can anyone help me?

Now, I thought this would simple(ish); animating the unrolling of a roll of a coil of paper. You know, you place a roll of wallpaper or document down and it unrolls across the table. I thought I could do this with a coiled up geometry and use the cloth solver. It sort of works but does flop about. Anybody got any ideas, or done this before? Cheers

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » Digital Tutors, 3DBuzz: Worth It?

Thank you all for your feedback.
Aside from Peter Q the community of up to date material seems slim. I also found AI good for spot solutions and in a context that I can relate to.
And yes, it is all about find time to become good.
I am ploughing my way through the Technical Rigging Course by 3DBuzz. In depth but a hard slog.

Well Fellow “Lurkers” (not the most flattering of descriptions), thanks for the heads-up. I have looked at the 3D Buzz stuff. While at first they seem to take a while to get to doing something in H, the tutoring style is excellent. But will they produce some new ones, in H11?

Hello, I was wandering whether to sign-up to DigitalTutors Houdini Training. My fear is that that from viewing the dates on the content, that new content is not being developed. This may lead to less support for questions, irrelevant content vs latest versions of Houdini etc.
Similarly, 3DBuzz does not seem to be developing any new content these days.
Is there a hidden message here?
Opinion / Thoughts appreciated

Hello, In blender it is possible to map movie files in addition to image files to objects as materials. Is this possible in Houdini? I guess an example would be having an object in a room that represents a TV and running a movie image on the objects screen.

I thought so. But as a newby following H9-10 tutorials it all becomes a little tricky without a dummies guide to the transition away from the old to the new.

Anyone, Vex Super Material H11. Where did it go? Replaced by something else? If yes, any tips on how to use the “new thing” when referencing H9-H10 tutorials?
Thanks

There are bits and pieces around. 3DBuzz' Fundamentals is free and excellent (good teaching style, need to stick with the long tutorials).
Beyond that free stuff is patchy (unlike Blender which is well supported by a community - difference between free and commercial products).
Anyone out there - could do with some simple project based workflows in H11 please; model and rig a simple character, general modelling in Houdini…

Thank you for the prompt response. I could not find the Surface Model VOP but butchered my way to an output using UVQuickShader. Not sure it is pucker but it worked.

Hi, just working through the first of the UV tutorials that was developed in an earlier version of Houdini. It calls for a Vex Layered Surface. But I can not find it. I presume it is hidden in something else now in Version 11. Can anyone help me please. I did try various options
