I'm not sure why you assume no triangulation is expected result
if you set De-Triangulate to no polygons, then it will obviously not de-triangulate any polygons, in other words it will leave all the triangles that Boolean had to create during triangulation for internal computing
also you can read the tooltip for Detriangulate parameter which describes the function
you are right.I think I got confused because the tutorial I was referencing had a 3d view-port error where it was still showing quad geometry even though it was supposed to be triangulated.
sorry for the noise.

Hello
I am learning boolean sop and I noticed that people usually set to detriangulate >no polygons with all 3 options right beneath for future refracturing.I always end up getting traingulate geometry when I do it.
Can someone explain to me why I am not getting the expected result which is not traingulate?

1.start in pop with a lead particle that will define the travel path .
2.add many points with point replicate to that lead particle.
3.use that as a source to emits many particles to get that trailing fx.
4.if it is becoming slow and it will .use wedges to sim same source with different seeds so you get tons of particles.
5.with that many particles , use delayed load to render in mantra.

I've just downloaded the latest build and can confirm it's all fixed!
That is amazing service, and that higher subscription cost doesn't look so bad now
The evaluation continues!
Cheers
There is a journal well hidden to check what is getting fixed and updated.!

Illés Szabolcs
Hi All Talented Houdini Users !
I am little confused about for what to use houdini and why?
We are just planing here to develop out future and our brand new pipeline
after 20 years of working in commercial business.. Sadly!
Is is the right software to do general ( not the hardest one ) commercials ?
Please make me strong in this. I like houdini and I wouldn'n like to use maya.
THANKS,
Szabolcs
Hey Welcome!
what kind of commercials do you do?cg character animation heavy?broadcast and packaging heavy?hyper-real cg live action integration?
If you are character heavy , you will want maya/xsi with zbrush/mudbox for character builds/animation and
let the Houdini handle for the rest .Houdini can do it but it's a question of how fast and efficient.
I am a Houdini user day in and out and i wouldn't want to touch Houdini for hero model building with today demands for character quality.
You are in for a treat if you need is just for Broadcast and cg live action integration.
Houdini will take care of lookdev, shading, lighting, fx and rendering needed.

oh, sorry then will try to not overdo thing and warn about spoilers in scene files
i don't wanna hijack this but the beauty about using houdini is that there are a gazillion way of doing the same things so you should keep going with spoiler alert.
I have been using houdini for 3 years straight and every day is learning experience.

another handy feature that I would turn on if I am new user is
press d on your node view >
go to Dependency tab>
turn all the tix box on>
It shows you what node is affecting other nodes.will speed up your learning process and Houdini way.

Thanks Jordi!
Not a eXSIer but I am a little selfishly excited about how all of this unfolding.
As a seasonal fx artist and used to be generalist , I can see how houdini is on the loop of
king of fx and only attracting fx people. Now with this , I hope we get some fersh outlook on modeling and animation side of houdini improving.

loaded questions!
I work in feature film effect and my workstation is not even close to your powerful computer. ops:
download houdini free learning and play with it.If it's fine , you won't need a new computer. If you need a rendering or simulating volume and rbd stuffs, just get a another renderbox (computer with decent cpu and ram but no fancy graphic card). That way it will free up your workstation while the other one is crunching data.
