i just stumbled across this entry. maybe someone else has the same issue as you to make the volumetric override work.
1. insert the bounding box (geometry, like a box) into the first input of the utility node
2. switch to the volumetric tab and insert the module name you want to replace
3. connect the utility to the 4th input of the building generator

I am attempting to install Houdini Niagara version 2 through the methods shown on the site. I installed the "Houdini Niagara Plugin - UE4.25.3" release on GitHub and replaced my old HoudiniNiagara folder in Engine\Plugins\FX with the one from GitHub as the video shows. I then choose to load that v2 plugin in UE (4.25.3), however I get the following error.
The following modules are missing or built from a different engine version:
HoudiniNiagara
HoudiniNiagaraEditor
Engine modules cannot be compiled at runtime. Please build through your IDE.
They should work since I am running 4.25.3, right? Is there any issue that could be causing this?

here is the fix: replace the plugin as described in the github repo with the already existing houdininiagara folder.
then launch a new unreal project with c++
create a new blank c++ file in your content folder (or somewhere in you project directory - with the unreal engine)
-> now the code gets compiled
activate the plugin
restart unreal
-> working
at least on my machine
also working with mac

hi - while writing a python script i run into a problem: with kwargs I can recognize if a shelf tool was activated by clicking in combination with the ctrl key - so by clicking on it in the shelf tool
but is there a way to recognize if the script was activated by ctrl and its HOTKEY?
if that's not possible - 2. how can I execute a second function within the same script with a different hotkey - or 3.: listen to the ctrl button to set a global variable so that my script knows that ctrl was pressed while the function was activated

Hi,
i'm using an api whitch uses async and awake calls (i'm not that familiar with threading) - the problem is that these calls are stopping/blocking my whole houdini interface from working
I'm connecting houdini with discord by

if it i matters: discord api is using asyncio to work with threads

having the same issue - not with unreal - but with cinema4d - when it comes to baking i think because of this cooking workflow houdini engine isnt capable of baking maps (or at least with the gamedev toolkit)

The SOP changes the points actual value from (0,0,0) to something else. The object transform doesn't affect the values of the point, but transforms it after the fact. This makes a different if you're accessing the values of those points within the object, say with Point Wrangles. Another way to look at it is that a transform SOP edits the geometry itself, while the object transform merely transforms it.
thanks for this explanation - another thing was is my example - got it now - that there was a pre transform on my geo node -> by extract tranform i got access to these values -> (recognised by middlemouse on my geosop)

i want to assign a global variable as path for a rop node with python - but the problem is that python translates the string $F to the current frame, and every other parameter… but i want to assign $F without translation

I have an copied Object and i want to activate the animation in the vop solver only when the element gets activated - do i have to create a solver(no experience) or how can i get control to offset the animation of each element? -> hip file in attachments

Additionally to mention: the support team answered that i have to change the language of my system from german(in my case) to english to get everything right by default

when i export an alembic file from cinema4d to houdini it realizes that the visibility attribute is animated - but it doesnt read out the parameter correctly.

-> is always 0
is this a wrong expression or maybe a bug?

You get this error when the parameter is defaulting to use Python instead of Hscript.
First to clear the error RMB (Right Mouse Button) on that parameter field or the parameter name to the left and in the menu choose Expression > Change Language to Hscript Expressions.
Now how the node got in that state to use Python instead of the factory default Hscript Expressions?
Check your Houdini Preferences from the main menu > Scripting tab and ensure that your expression language in the menu choice is set to Hscript. Then press Apply.
Note that changing the Expression Language in the preferences only works on NEW operators that you add. It doesn't change the settings on already created nodes. For that you have to manually RMB and change parameters back to HScript or write a script that rips through all your nodes and changes the parm states back to hscript.
