I have experienced this problem with Internet Explorer 6, 7, and 8 on PC hardware running Windows XP and Vista and when running XP or Vista in a Virtual Machine on a PC. Firefox and Safari have not exhibited this problem on PC hardware.
Additionally, when using Internet Explorer 6, 7, and 8 on PC hardware or Virtual Machines running Windows XP or Vista, and visiting the Houdini Forum, the navigation menu, under the marquee does not render the drop-down list properly. The list is off-set to the right of the category heading and disappears when the cursor is moved to make a selection, making it difficult to choose something from the menu. This only occurs on the Forum pages.
Internet Explorer 8 has not exhibited any of this behavior on Mac OS X in Boot Camp, when using Windows Vista.
Originally, I thought Internet Explorer had a problem rendering certain sidefx.com web pages but Internet Explorer 8 works properly in Boot Camp.
I don't know why this happens.

Mac OSX, 10.5.6, and Vista Ultimate SP 1, 32-bit, are regularly updated with the latest available builds, in addition to the most current production builds for both.
Houdini 8.2.274 (Windows 32-bit, VC 7) is used, occasionally.

Hi,
On Windows, LMB click Start > All Programs > Side Effects Software> Houdini 9.1.1xx > Administrative Tools > License Administrator.
LMB click the highlighted License Administrator text and a tabbed dialog box, labeled, “Houdini License Administrator”, in the Tiitle Bar, will open. Select the “Installed Licences” tab to view license information.
On the Menu Bar, from the “View” menu, select “Diagnostic Information”, for detailed license information.
The License Administrator can also be opened from a command prompt.
Open Command Prompt from Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. At the flashing cursor, type cd C\Program Files\Side Effects Software\Houdini 9.1.1xx\bin and hit the Enter key. Now, at the flashing cursor, type hkey and the License Administrator will open where you can examine it, as described, above.
The xx in the Houdini version numbers, above, require the numerical version number that you want to access.
For example, a complete version number would be Houdini 9.1.189.
The version number is also located on the Help menu, on the Menu Bar.
In Houdini, select Help > About Houdini and a dialog box will open that diplays the version that is currently running. Alternately, the hotkey is Alt+V.
As suggested, the Apprentice FAQ provides instructions for running licenses on a computer that isn't connected to the Internet.
From the navigation menu at sidefx.com, click Support > FAQs.
On the page that opens, click Apprentice FAQ.
A new page will open and on that page, click the fourth Q from the top.
Happy Easter!

Thanks, for the workaround. I was running Apprentice 9.0.767 when I had a problem opening seashadow.rat.
After installing 9.0.777, the file opened just fine.

I'm having a problem opening seashadow.rat. I'm getting an error message about missing .dlls and an inability to find the file, although the file is in the images folder.
I'm using Houdini Apprentice 9.0.767 on Windows XP. Is the extension .rat for a RenderMan Artist Tools file? If it is, then I understand that RenderMan can't be used with Houdini Apprentice.
Thanks, for providing the training videos and continuing the Apprentice program.

RMB (Right Mouse Button) click on the My Computer icon.
From the Context Menu that appears, select Properties.
From the System Properties dialog box (Tabbed Property Sheet), select the Advanced tab.
LMB (Left Mouse Button) click the Environment Variables button.
You can also access the same dialog from Start > Control Panel > System.
Additionally, open the command prompt and, on the command line, cd to the appropriate drive and from the resulting prompt, type ‘set’ (without quotes) to view the environment variables for your system.
At the prompt, type /? for help. Use ‘Help and Support’ from the Start button for more details on using the Command Shell and setting paths.
Cheers,

I'd like to chime in on this as another person experiencing the same problem.
Error installing key …
Install Error Invalid license key specified
ERROR Key installation failed for…
License Administrator displays all green dots for Server info tab
but blank on installed license tab.
I've uninstalled/reinstalled and started/restarted server;
manually installed keys, deleted/undeleted keys and now I've run out of ideas.
Any help will be appreciated.
