hi all.
i have a funny problem.
1. i get some geometry from DOP, with DOPimport SOP node.
2. i use “Create points for representing objects”
3. i need to retime cache, but TimeBlend don't work with “Orient” attribute (also “TimeBlendParticles” don't work with)
4. I need to import “orient” point attribute, but i can't use it as … variable value.
I mean i can use $VX $VY $VZ velocity, i can use $CEX(YZ), $MAPU, $MAPV
e.t.c..
How i can get $ORIENT ? How look right name for orient variable ?
$ORIENT0(123) don't work..

Hm.. looks like at this moment Houdini 11.1 can not produce hight quality SSS for production tasks.
1. AXIS SSS toolkit from Exchange library give me only black frames with alpha.
2. All SSS solutions produce flickered results and any parameters on shaders or mantra can't clean that.
This look so strange.. May be i'm wrong, but mental ray and vray going to realtime.
..but i can't create clean SSS in mantra. I'm right ?

I'm confused.

3. point clouds don't changed (all points is stay on their places from frame to frame)
4. i use simple points light (instead of area that i have used before)
Why SSS is flickered? Does Houdini have a worked SSS solution?
May be this is a bug?

Hi all.
I try to tune Subsurface in mantrasurface Houdini shader.
What i have (files attached):
1. static camera
2. deformed geometry
3. diffuse, specular, reflections - disabled (for understanding major problem)
I like sss that i can tune for static frames, but when i render animation - my SSS is flickered..
And i can't understand why, but flickering is occur on static geometry frames..
And i can't clear that by increasing sampling, or tracing parameters.
What wrong with mantrasurface shader? How can i get render w/o flickering ?

Yeah, you should be able to use FLIP as well. Just render the particles as points instead of a surface. Of course you need to tweak the settings as well so that the particles don't move as much as a fluid.
hm, sorry for possible non correct inputs, but i mean Sand Dynamics. Render is not problem..

There used to be a Sand Solver that was based of FLIP I think but now I can't find it anymore. Someone probably knows where it wen't.
Im hear about Sand Solver is deprecated now, because FLIP is do all the same.. Not?
But can i use FLIP for Sand ? There is a trivial solution for FLIP ?

You can delayed load instance. And instances can make use of your attributes.

…and finally, no problems with Ubuntu 10.04
just put custom LD_LIBRARY_PATH to .bashrc
and all work nice..
it is certainly not a solution, but for many reasons I had to remove the OpenSUSE 11.4 and switch to Ubuntu 10.04.
by the way “LD” problem was solved

Yes it solved, but.. With strange way:
I used Both Shift combination for switching keyboard layout. If I use other combinations - Alt + Shift - a Houdini input iwork pretty nice.)
Something wrong happening in the system with a button Shift, when I choose to switch keyboard layout with “2 shifts pressed”. The same problem when the window manager - WindowMaker, but there I do not know how to solve.
It does not matter, everything is clear now.

You have tested on Linux ?
On Windows all ok. On Linux something happen in any time when i press “Shift” - Houdini start to selecting text in field.

two circle SOP with different radius -> in merge SOP, then skin SOP, then carve SOP and you can play…
UV - is the Surface parameter. When you need work with UV, then you need a surface. Use skin SOP or project SOP
as i understand it in houdini circles have just U, and have no V.

i will try some later… I have some problems with slow CIFS reading on my openSUSE 11.4, and this unsolved, i post the bug report, but nothing solved, and can't use it now. I will hope we can continue later….
