Hi
I don't think houdini supports mp3. You can import audio .wav or .aiff in the CHOPS editor using a file CHOP. There's a MIDI IN chop for .midi files
Be sure to check Main Menu -> Window -> Audio Panel -> Time Line to enable audio playback
Also make sure you set the green audio flag for the CHOP ypu want to hear
————-
HEY! I'm not able to load any audio files myself!!!
Keep getting “ Error: Loading from stream Failed (ref: (null)) ”
“file not found”
Running 6.1.38 on RH9
What's going on here?!?

Technical Discussion » light and object masks

Hi,
To use Shadow Masks you usually add the names of objects you want associated with the selected light in the mask field. Just wondering.. is there a way to “subtract” objects from “ * ” so I don't have to enter the whole scene to exclude just one object. I know i can link specific lights to individual objects with Light Mask but is there some particular syntax for excluding lights and/or objects from the default “ * ”?
kinda like * - foo1 foo2…fooN
Hope i'm clear here
thanks

If you're using a ramp to vary the color over life just type $LIFE in the lookup field, still would help to know how and where u're using the $LIFE variable tough

Hi, I may be way off, but try removing your memory DIMMS cleaning the contacts and replacing them. I'm no stranger to segmentation faults either, but since I moved to Linux they've been few and far between, at least during a session. Houdini almost always crashes on exit though… strange
Good Luck

Hi,
Are you having trouble generating the profiles themselves or emitting from the extracted profiles?
set the surfsect to “generate profiles” and then append a profile sop to work with standalone curves. You may want to join some of the segments the profile sop generates. use these as the pop source
Cheers

Technical Discussion » "Realistic Arm Setup" video question

Hey,
I was just watching the “Realistic Arm Setup” video and kinda liked the way the controls were all available in the viewer pane as opposed to having to switch back and forth between custom slider OPs. Definately a speed boost as it allows you to focus more on posing rather than “Now where did I put those hand controls…” kinda issues. With HUD sliders of course my point is all but obsolete. I also like the way the hand stays planted where you put it
Anyway, my question here is, this particular setup robs me of that nifty little IK/FK blend slider in the KIN Chop which just might have made life sooo much simpler. I know this sounds like wanting to have my cake and eat it too, but has anyone found a way around this little hitch? … and yes i have heard of multiple arm setups… I just want my cake

Technical Discussion » Set Driven Key

In Houdini 5.5 you would Create a new operator type (Ctrl+RMB) in the network Pane, Give it a unique name, and adjust its properties. Under the Parameters Page you create your custom Parameters (Attributes) and save. Then “Copy parameter” (right click parameter name) from the new optype's parameter (Driver) and “Paste relative channel Reference” in the channel you want controlled (Driven). Use a “fit” function in the driven channel if you want to modify ranges.
Keep in mind this is not quite Set Driven Key but works sort of similar
Have fun
