Tower coolers like the Noctua will last forever, while AIO water coolers usually fail after 7–8 years, but they keep things way cooler from my experience and produce much less noise, a custom water loop with a separate pump is also a good solution, since the pump is what usually fails, in a custom loop the pump can easily be replaced; also, a custom loop usually keeps things even cooler than an AIO water cooler!

Running a 5950x with an ARCTIC COOLING Liquid Freezer II 280mm in a Fractal Design Define 7 Compact silent case, I set it up for 70c max, works really well even on full load, I went the liquid way because I wanted a silent workstation, and mine is pretty much silent, I only hear a buzz on full load!

For H19 I would be happy with a beta of Karma GPU and KineFX tools for facial mocap, plus maybe a premade rig system!

christenaMy bad, I should have mentionned that you need the Unreal Engine for Unreal support, and that Apprentice doesn't support the engine!
Are you saying Houdini Indie has UE4 integration? I already found that page and it doesn't really answer my question.

Indie is the best choice IMHO, but there is a comparison page of all the Houdini versions, it might help choose which is best for you!

For a future xx.5 update, I would like they put all the effort and the science they are known for to work out a better and faster User Experience and User Interface, and overhauling already existing stuff and nodes (like COPs).
Maybe you could put together a mockup of what you would like the UI to look like and explain how the Houdini user experience could be enhanced, then get users behind your proposal and suggest it to the developers!

Not complaining, but curious: is this the first time that the production cycle takes 2 years?
Houdini 18.0 was released in Nov 2019
18.5 came out 10 months ago, seems pretty consistent with other release dates!

iisgyThat would be cool, but we will have to wait and see, in the mean time 18.5 is rock solid and I am still learning the new stuff!
houdini19 will be released in October

Jonathan de BlokUnreal is great, I played a bit with the new Metahumans, it's so cool, and a bit scary at the same time!
If I had to pick one I'd say unreal. Good to have a mix of houdini+realtime skills. And houdini engine is a nice bridge into unreal as well.

I found a few KineFX tutorials, like this one, and I must say that the future of Houdini as an animation tool feels pretty good right now, I just can't wait to see what they come up with for KineFX in H19!

I recently completely ditched Blender for Houdini, for model creation I went with 3D Coat, 3D Coat 2021, which is still in Beta as of this writing, has great poly-modeling, sculpting, retopology, UVing(it's awesome at uving), and painting/texturing tools, better than anything Blender has to offer, especially for retopology, uving and texturing, 3D Coat painting and texturing is more like Substance Painter, 3D painting/texturing is really basic in Blender!
When I really got into Houdini I realized how limited I was with Blender, I know it sounds corny, but with Houdini my only limitation is my imagination, 3D Coat and Houdini make a great pair and fulfil all my 3D needs at the moment!
I also have to mention that Houdini also has more than decent poly modeling tools, those are not as well known since Houdini is mostly known for FX!
No offense, but the geometry node only touches the surface of what Houdini has been doing for the last 25 years, I doubt very much that Blender will ever catch up to Houdini in this aspect, and many others, and how does a software complement when it aims at becoming the software it supposed to complement?

With the recent addition of Geometry Nodes, Blender is becoming more Houdini-like every day. Another +1 for Blender being the best complement for Houdini that I can think of.

I have 4 x 32 GB GSkills Ripjaws V series on a B450-A so yes, 128 GB should run fine on your motherboard/CPU, the only limitation might be speed, the more ram you have, the lower the speed, usually, but 3200 Ghz should not be a problem, if your ram supports it, of course, mine runs fine at 3600 Ghz!

Hello everyone!
I am looking for an advanced masterclass or tutorials on body and facial rigging in Houdini 18, preferably using KineFX, anyone has suggestions?
Here is a reference video of what I want to achieve, this is a free character rig for Blender, and it is pretty solid, I would like to reproduce something similar in Houdini!

Hello, I hope everyone is okay!
I am looking into rigging an octopus in Houdini 18.5 and I was wondering what technique would be the best in Houdini 18.5!
Is FEM still the best way for the dynamic part, or is Vellum better, since much faster, is there some sort of spline IK setup for Houdini, how about muscle, and I can’t find any good tutorial on the subject, anyone has a link on a decent tutorial?
Thanks in advance for any reply!
Gilles

jsmackMy point is that it usually takes less ram to render than to do simulations, simulations are RAM hungry, Houdini is certainly no exception!
Yes, but the machines that do the work (simulation and render) are the same machines (at least they are in my experience).
