Daryl DunlapOk, cool, thanks for your time, and the info, heading to the RS forum!
Yeah, there's already been alot of production frames done with Redshift using the Houdini ocean tools. You can search on the Redshift forums for some success stories.

Daryl DunlapThanks for the reply, storage is cheap, not really a concern, just not sure how to make this work, especially with flip fluid integration, like an infinite ocean with a boat roaming through the ocean, is the visual quality as good, do I need to export huge maps, etc.
Redshift cannot read the Spectra directly like Mantra can. So, you still have to export the deformed mesh and displacement map (both per-frame) for rendering in Redshift.
What you lose in storage cost you gain in per-frame rendertime.
Here is what I want to achieve, I gave up on rendering this in Mantra, takes days on my I7!

Hello everyone, I was wondering if there was news on rendering infinite oceans on other render engine than Mantra, namely Redshift, or is it still a Mantra thing and the only option that remains is to export a bunch of maps to apply as displacement on a plane?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

midiconI am also interested to hear about this, a good facial bone rig would go a long way in easing the rigging process, several of those out there, it would make the auto rig-much more usable, maybe in a future release?
I'm so excited for this release! I was a bit worried at first to see all the little teases of the interface but man it looks awesome!!! I just have one question, the rigging is jaw dropping but is there anything in there for facial rigging!!? the auto-rigging just looks like it only is for the main body parts. is there a way to add bones to the auto rig or is it still something that you'd have to build from the ground up?
Thanks!! I'm excited for our company to officially switch!!
Rob
Blender has 3 auto-rigs with facial tools that I know of, blenrig 5, rigify pitchipoy and auto-rig pro, all of these are free and open source.
All this said, the 16 rigging tools made my jaw drop, literately, looked like a fool for a minute I am sure, awesome job on these tools.

Technical Discussion » PyroFx and Flip fluids to game engine

Hello everyone.
I am working on a short movie using Houdini at work and the plan is to render the whole thing in a game engine, either Unreal or Unity, I know my way around Houdini Engine, but I cannot for the love of Pete find a way to export Pyro FX and Flip fluids to these engines for render, could anyone tell me if this is possible, and if yes point me to learning ressources on these subjects, many thanks for any responses.

3dnvMe as well, although I would have loved to see auto facial rigging tools as well, but all in all 16 updates are impressive.
The rigging and character tools have me smiling from ear to ear

pomruCool, thanks, missed that one!
Funny you should ask, since there is this tutorial that was posted last month. Enjoy!
Infinite Ocean Effect with FLIP [sidefx.com]
It uses bits of the other tutorial but it still makes more sense to me, it gets rid of the compositing and the ghosting, which was giving me a headache, thanks again!

Hello everyone, first post to the forum, so thanks in advance for any replies!
I am looking into making an infinite ocean with some FLIP fluids in it, so I went through this tutorial.
Your text to link here… [fxphd.com]
This tutorial is over 2 years old, and since the peoples at SideFX are coding machines, and because Houdini advanced so much since the making of that tutorial, I was hoping that there is now a more efficient way of doing an infinite ocean then to stitch patches of ocean on a grid and deform it.
Can anyone tell me what is the workflow for infinite ocean in 15.x?
Again, many thanks for any help!
