I've been searching the docs and tutorials… I find it weird it is not mentioned anywhere. So how do I add an edge between 2 points???

Is there a way I can freeze all transforms like in Soft? I've been digging everywhere in the object node and the creation node, the pivot (or center?) stays oblique-oriented and shifted :?

OK guys thanks I'll try it soon.
Too bad for the render region, perhaps it should be a feature request?

Hi all!
In XSI you could apply one property to multiple objects:
- Select a hierarchy and get > property
- Put many object in a group then select the group then get > property
In Houdini, there must be a way to do that?
What I'm actually trying to do: I have a multi-level hierarchy of objects in my scene…
- All of them should have the same subdivision.
- Some of them should get the same material, all the other ones would get a second material.
- Some of them would get the same material but different textures.
So how to share properties on hierarchies in Houdini 14?
Thanks

Hey Marty
Sorry for the HUGE delay. 8) Well, thanks for giving me a solution : “'Render Polydons As Subdivion (Mantra)' checkbox”. The problem is: I have many many boxes to check. So… I'll try to start a new thread about shared properties.
Thanks,
Gz

hello there,
In Windows 10 it seems to work. I have added the environment variable and also added this line inside houdini.env, and so far so good. Now my 3 prefs folders are inside appdata\roaming\sidfx\… and they didn't popped up in my documents folder, so far so good

Please tell me there is a way to have memo cams in the render region!

Thanks for the answer. I would have thought everything would be connected through nodes in Houdini but that does it for now

Thanks Pezekto
But if I understand correctly, I must edit this file:
“C:\Users\%username%\Documents\houdini14.0\houdini.env”
In this file I must set :
HOUDINI_USER_PREF_DIR = “c:\new\path\houdini.env”
And then copy the folders to the new location…
But then how will Houdini know the new location of houdini.env?
And what about the 2 others folder :
.config
.hbrowser
?
Thanks
Gz

This is a very stupid newbie question, but please don't hit on the head
So I have created an object “torus” and i think the material “mantrasurfacd” is applied to it. But is there a visual way of validating the link between this object and its material? Or if not, is there a dialog in which I can find this info?
Thanks
Gz

Hi there,
Following up on an old thread. I was told with Houdini 14 it will be possible to move the preference folders to another location. So in “my documents” I have 3 Houdini preference folders:
.config
.hbrowser
houdini14.0
What should I do to move these 3 folders to another location?
Thanks !!

Hi, I noticed Houdini doesn't create “projects” like XSi or Maya, with subfolders such as “pictures”, “scènes”, “render_pictures”, etc.
How do you deal with that? Do you create subfolder with the same structure as a Softimage project?
Thanks and happy new year!!!
David

I don't see this option…
Well now I used FBX and it works better. I just get the geometry but at least I can start working on this scene LOL

Hmmm I'm back because, once again, I'm confused here.
So the XSI scene imports fine and I can subdivide its multiple objects, but… I can't select anything! It's like the “file” node is only refering to an external alambic file that can't be altered…. How can I select things and start working on them?
Thanks :?

Hello gang, sorry if the question seems obvious but I'm an absolute newbie here 8)
I would need some help with imported Alambic… I imported a whole XSI scene with multiple models that contain simple polygon meshes (low poly modeling).
I don't know what's the matter but I can't subdivide them in Houdini. I'm not trying to simply increase the polycount, I want a non destructive subdivision on these meshes just like in XSI.
So here is what I tried:
If I create a cube polygon mesh, I can go to parameters > render > display as = subdivision surface.
But on this imported Alambic geometry, this drop down is not available.
Do you have any idea why?
Thanks guys,
Gz

hey MartybNz
Thanks a lot for your patience and screenshot + sample scene.
First, according to your explanation, I'm not sure we're speaking of the same thing. BTW are you familiar with XSI? Here is a screenshot so I am sure we're on the same topic. It shows a Softimage scene that I'm trying to re-create in Houdini.
As you can see there is the scene root which is the top parent in the scen.
Under the scene root are several models. And Under each of these models are polygonal objects such as “plate_Fr”.
Another child of the scene root is the group “GroupGeoApprox” in which I have gathered all the scene's polygonal objects. On the group I applied a Geometry Approximation property that contains the subdivision values.
All polygon objects in the group inherit the Geometry Approximation property.
So now let's go back to your example scene.
I guess Houdini's equivalent to the scene root is the “Obj” node.
So first question, why is the “subnet_Polygon_model_in_here” a child to the “box_object1”? As it will ultimately contain several objects, it should be child to the “Obj” node…
Second question : I can't drag and drop the “subnet_Polygon_model_in_here” onto the “Obj” node?
Third question : I have tried to create a sphere as a child of the “Obj” node. I can cut it, but when I enter Inside the “subnet_Polygon_model_in_here”, I can't paste it.
So I'm pretty sure I'm missing the right workflow here… :?
