hi Tim - afaik there isnt a way to control pivots as the way you described but i made a vid to show how you can do more precise placement of pivot (because you can input values for the pivot but thats not really useful if you need to do some precision snapping of pivot). i hope that the video makes sense, let me know pls if otherwise.

Hi guys - in case you haven't seen, here are several rigging+constraints tutorials from our friends over at Red Ring Entertainment, an animation+VFX studio in Bulgaria. Kalin Stoyanov kindly captured these videos for you guys, to share information and his techniques.

ISUther - you can turn on geometry information, to see how your selection. I made a little video to show you.. i think this is what you are looking for. Hit the D key for Display Options window.

Heh, i was wondering same for a long time and had to make a new pane every time i started houdini, even though I had saved and set it up to use my saved desktop layout for dual displays on startup. It would appear in taskbar, 2 windows for my houdini session but i could never actually click on+access that secondary pane, which was super annoying
Then one day i saw my cursor change when i went to the edge of my screen and …i clicked and dragged (out) and LO-AND-BEHOLD MY SECONDARY PANE!!!! it was there all this time, was just existing outside of theboundary display. * sigh *
I use W10 btw.

Hmm Patar/Matt - looks like my image got scaled down on the img upload site i put it on..
*argh.. i didnt want to put it as an attachment but it seems that all those image upload sites either resize your img or force you to go to their page
anyway..about including into docs, I can ask about that..but i dunno about the .hip files. I've marked down all the settings used to get each one, so you should get same look of displacement with those settings (hopefully i didnt forget to put some down in my excitement of "oooh that's a cool shape!").

Hello! I was curious about the types of noises that you could use for displacement and thought it would be fun to have a sort of glossary of what those noises and fractal types would look like. I only picked out the ones I thought were visually interesting…
Anyway, just thought I would share
Setup: I just had a simple polygon sphere and threw on a principled shader, then used the Unified Noise to displace.
P.S. I initially tried to keep the noise types together in some sort of order but.. layout dictated differently

Hi guys - regarding the mystery around disable snapping, that is for situations where you have a few polys you're extruding and because of their proximity to other polys/points let's say, sometimes they just snap to areas where you don't want them to. So instead of having to strategically move and maybe scale that group of polys (or even delete some accidental triangles), you can just disable the snapping until you drag them to the area where you want to plop them into. I can do a short vid if that helps..
And as for closing that quad in your image, McNistor, I would suggest grabbing the fat end of the gap (that edge) and extruding a poly outwards to close it off.
And yes, I'm using also SHIFT to select geo as well..
