vex errors with shader

Hi,
I am trying to build a shader that uses a point cloud to grab data. For some bizarre reason I get errors like this

mantra: VEX warning: Unknown parameter: ‘10’ Undefined symbol
mantra: VEX warning: Unknown parameter: ‘bgcolor’ Undefined symbol
mantra: VEX warning: Unknown parameter: ‘1’ Undefined symbol
mantra: Displacement shader ‘opobj/shopnet1/pc_occ_material1’ doesn't seem to compute N.
Shading may be incorrect.

Those parameters have been created from the occlusion VOP > via promote parameter and then fed into a loop and connected to the occlusion vop. So my question is how can the parameter be unknown and what is a Undefined symbol ?

I think you can disregard the warnings. It loves to spit out those errors and usually it works fine anyway.

Your concern is probably the line
mantra: Displacement shader ‘opobj/shopnet1/pc_occ_material1’ doesn't seem to compute N.

I have had a lot of problems using the occlusion VOP for displacement and don't remember if i solved it or did it some other way. A file to look at would be fun.

Hey Erik,
Im no shader writer and have skipped displacement and PC for the time. So I though how about getting some occ created from within the surface shader that the user can create on the fly and choose to use. I have multiplied the occlusion point cloud data with the surface colour before it gets piped into the new lighting model. Not sure if that's correct with the new H11 shader.
I also noted I had to beef up the background colour for the occlusion VOP > is that standard. Would welcome comments.
Any way would still love to get point clouds working with displacement !
