in past hour-two i downloaded houdini on my 32bit machine with suse9.3 installed on and nvidia(6600) 1-8xxx drivers installed…
i followed installation instructions and done ./houdini.install into /usr/houdini (i prefere to have custom installed programs into /usr )
then i went to /usr/houdini as root and tried to do next step of installation - the one : “source houdini_setup”
and it looked like this:
linuxusr/houdini # source houdini_setup
bash: houdini_setup: line 26: syntax error near unexpected token `set'
bash: houdini_setup: line 26: ` if ( ! $?cwd ) set cwd=`/bin/pwd`'
then i entered into bash (there was no need to do that but… who knows.. )
linuxusr/houdini # sh
sh-3.00# source houdini_setup
sh: houdini_setup: line 26: syntax error near unexpected token `set'
sh: houdini_setup: line 26: ` if ( ! $?cwd ) set cwd=`/bin/pwd`'
sh-3.00# exit
exit
linuxusr/houdini #
so as you can see, i have this problem when i want to run “ source houdini_setup” command:
sh: houdini_setup: line 26: syntax error near unexpected token `set'
sh: houdini_setup: line 26: ` if ( ! $?cwd ) set cwd=`/bin/pwd`'
i have done search on this forum for problems on suse but haven't find similiar…
since this is my first post, i would like to thank sidefx for giving us such a great program, aldo i don't now more than create a tube
houdini on suse 9.3 32 questions...

now when i tried to run hkey i got “Houdini License Administrator” but no license is running and i would like to try demo (30 days or whatever type of is it )
when i went to “server information” tab it sad:
- the license server is not running
- the license server may not serve licenses
- the license server does not allow this machine to read licenses –(?)
in readme.txt it says:
If you are an Apprentice (non-commerical user), Houdini will guide
you through the process of installing a non-commercial license
when it cannot find a license.
but i haven't seen any kind of guide…
in “Houdini License Administrator” i'm disallowed to do:
File -> Install licenses…(and)
File -> Manually Enter Keys…
on status bar of HLA (houdini license admin ) it says:
server not running ||| invalid server key (?)
help… pls… p.s. this is case with houdini 7.0.689
