Create a subnet that doesn't change the hierarchy

When we put a set of nodes into a subnet, their hierarchy is changed so that the path to each node now includes the subnet as part of the path. I'm wondering if there is a way to create something like a subnet that doesn't change the path of nodes within it. The idea is that it would provide a way to visually organize nodes while keeping their hierarchy flat relative to nodes outside this psuedo-subnet. We have something like this capability already in the fact that a backdrop can be "minimized" but it visually minimizes and expands within the same visual space as all the other nodes at the same hierarchy level which greatly constrains its practical utility. If you know of a way to achieve what I'm after, please share.

It's impossible to create such a subnet. But if you just need to visually organize your nodes, use network boxes (Shift+O) instead.
