Tearable Cloth / Paper Effect in Houdini 20 Oct. 12, 2025, 11:23 a.m.

Hi, I am trying to achieve this kind of tearing effect in Houdini. but not getting the desired result. Can anyone tell me how I can get this kind of effect where I can get tears in my masked areas? And also what would be the best method for masking? like point, edges or primitive selection for masking

OpenCL Error Issue with Houdini 20.5.550 Aug. 10, 2025, 4:08 p.m.

Hello!

I have been working on a really simple vellum grain simulation, but I keep receiving this error: OpenCL Exception: clFinish (-36)
My vellum solver also indicates this error: Error vellumobject1 - /obj/vellum/dopnet1/vellumsolver1/graph_color_constraints: Error: OpenCL Exception: Interruption while waiting for kernel compile. (-1) Unable to cook the test input. Error vellumobject1 - /obj/vellum/dopnet1/vellumsolver1/ocl_neighborsearch_grains: Warning: /obj/vellum/dopnet1/vellumsolver1/ocl_neighborsearch_grains/neighborsearchcl1: Invalid attribute specification: "Missing name or piece attribute.". Error: /obj/vellum/dopnet1/vellumsolver1/ocl_neighborsearch_grains/neighborsearchcl1: OpenCL Exception: clFinish (-36)

I have been trying to search through the forums and google on my own, but nobody seems to have a way to fix this issue. I'm already running the latest NVIDIA studio driver (version 577.00) and I have a 4700 laptop. There shouldn't be any issues on a GPU end. I've also tried to add "HOUDINI_OCL_DEVICETYPE=GPU" into my Houdini env file, but that caused more problems so I had to remove it.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why I'm receiving such errors despite this being a relatively simple simulation or how to fix it?

I don't know many details about it. In the past I faced this, and it was something like a vellum issue with GPU OpenCL. To fix this, go to Edit > Preference > Miscellaneous. At the bottom, set OpenCL Device to CPU. Hope that will fix the issue.
